Making a pick guard from blank stock

I'm starting to feel like a spammer as I have a lot of questions and am trying to post them in the appropriate forums :)...

I'm starting a project to referb a Kay Vanguard K-100 from the 1960's.  The existing Pickguard is cracked in the two most distant corners - I assume from shrinking over the years - so I want to replace it.  at the same time as this is a non-permanent modification I want to update it with something a bit more "flashy".  Given that this is a simi-rareish guitar I'm not counting on finding a pre-made pickguard for it so I will be cutting one from stock.

I'm planning on using this: http://www.warmoth.com/Blank-Stock-10x16-Vintage-Pearl-P1569C210.aspx  as I think it will fit the "look" but be a bit more flashy too :)

So my question is, can anyone give me some tips and tricks on making a pick guard from blank stock?  I would like to get the 45 degree angle you see on the edges of modern pick guards but I don't know how to acomplish that reliably.  Also, what is the best cutting method?  Should I look for a angled routing bit for my rotory saw?

Thanks much,
Chuck

IiRC I posted a post or two on the workflows I use to design and craft my own pickguards. I'm not able to search my posts from my phone

awesome, thanks guys.  I've not been on the forum in a while and forgot the "Search first, ask second" rule.  Apologies :)
