I love the randomness of the grain compared to a more uniform tight flame top - reminds me of what they used to have as wild maple. I took one photo (next to a picture of my plans for this guitar) and the rest are the showcase photos. I've always dreamed to own a Les Paul copy that's better and cheaper than the real thing.  :laughing11:

That's some fast shipping, innit.  It's almost as though someone in Puyallup was trying to clean up a crime scene... makes you wonder what's gonna happen to those lingering firebird necks...

I found a tiny defect on my LP body - the maple top peeks out under the binding right before it gets to the neck pocket. It didn't mention a defect in description that I can remember. This is probably why it was cheaper than the other maple tops.

I guess I can stain the piece of maple a little darker to match the mahogany.

Are you sure about that  :icon_scratch:

Have a look at this ... http://www.warmoth.com/Guitar/Bodies/Options/BindingOptions.aspx
Go down to where it says 'On Carved Top Bodies'

Is that what you mean  :dontknow:

Yes, exactly. Is it supposed to be like that?

Yes, it is supposed to be like that, the reason is the maple top is actually thicker then the binding at that point on the body.

It still bothers me even if it's on all the LPs. I'll get a small can of matching stain after I oil the mahogany back and hopefully hide the maple a little more. I wouldn't care if I was doing a dark or solid color back but this one will probably be done with untinted Tru-Oil.
