But I think it's going to be a GREAT WEEK!!!! :blob7:

I thought by now I would be showing off my latest W acquisition.
But the Post Office had a better idea.
They shipped my neck from Puyullup to Anchorage via Albany, New York. :icon_scratch:

For those of you not familiar with US geography that's a twice across the continent extra!!
Rough estimate from google is an addition of at least 5650 air miles.

And they haven't updated the parcel tracker since 10:30 p.m. on the 25th.

:dontknow:

That's the USPS for you under government control/regulation.

I wonder why they're going out of business?

The unfortunate part is, that where I live, USPS is the best choice for most shipping.

The other Unreliable Shiiiiite People are way to costly and hard to deal with for damages.

The good news is that it made it to Alaska last night & I might get it today. But probably tomorrow.
:hello2:

That's part of what makes the USPS such a failure. The regulations say they have to deliver everywhere, which isn't practical in many cases at the prices they charge. I know when I've shipped things to European customers, I'm always surprised at what UPS and FedEx want. It's usually at least double what the USPS wants, and that's not a good number to start with. For instance, a body to England will run about $125 w/ UPS, but only $65 through the USPS. Then, the USPS will deliver to APO addresses as if they're local, so that same destination for a body might only cost $20. I sent a neck to Dubai a couple years ago for about $12, and one to Quatar for about $15. It's unsustainable, and that's why they're headed for the history books.

I use them when I have to, but in all the time I've moved parts around the only damages I've ever suffered have been at the hands of the USPS so I'm always a little apprehensive.

I think APOs are handled in bulk by military contract carriers and are supposed to be restricted to US armed forces personal stationed outside of the country.
But that was years ago, it's hard to say what they have turned it into now.

As for problems with USPS I heard that it had to do with congressional mandates to pay-forward years & years worth of retirement funds before they pay their current bills. But that's just hearsay on my part.

Mostly I think it's a moral problem. Do you look at the faces of the people behind the counter at the P.O.?
Pretty sorry looking bunch for someone with one of the best work/pay/retirement deals in the country.

I better shut up. What the hell will I do when they're gone?

Probably handle one helluva lot less junk mail. I know around here, if it weren't for junk mail, the USPS wouldn't have a purpose. Then, there's so much of that we could probably heat the place during the winter if we burned it rather than let Waste Management do it.

But, I know what you're saying. It's a concern. Many geographically inconvenient or sparsely populated places would suffer due to a lack of motivation to serve them. It hardly makes sense to send a man and a truck 70 miles or more out into the hinterlands to deliver a letter for $.45 cents or a package for $12.
