Well, after however long it's been I have come to the difficult conclusion that I just don't care all that much for the pickups that I wound for my black Tele Special a while back. I just went and dug up that thread and it was 2 years ago, which is just blowing my mind.

As proud as I was of those pickups, over time they just weren't doing it for me. Heretofore my favorite combination in there has been a Duncan Jerry Donahue Bridge with a Lollar Firebird neck. That was pretty killer. At this time I really want a PAF-style fullsize 'bucker in the neck so I hit the bricks and started researching and decided to try out a Lollar El Rayo humbucker with one of his Special T bridge pickups. I have to say that I am really, really happy with them. Time will tell but I think this is a pretty golden combination. Hear for yourself! (The player is being goofy, it keeps stopping after track 5? There are 10 tracks in the playlist: one clean and one dirty sample for each of the 5 switch positions...)

(Amp is a Line 6 Helix model of a Fender Deluxe Reverb. Additional grit provided by Helix's Klon clone. Clean sample reverb is a Malekko Spring Chicken reverb, dirty sample reverb is Helix's spring reverb.)

That sounds really good. Yes, that is a 'pretty golden combination'. :icon_thumright:

It’s a challenging configuration to work with, I’ve been tinkering with this one for over 20 years!  :tard: When you find some success, it’s worth sharing. Just for the record the guitar is wired with 500k pots and a 470k resistor in parallel on the bridge pickup.
