You Floyd people, like creationists you are! Another question- does a Floyd give you the same sound as a bigsby? (it's a rhetorical question).

If you're responding to me, i have to reiterate that I am neither a "Floyd person" nor a "creationist". You have me confused with the holy creator of Dangerous Neckware, although I don't know if he's a creationist. I would tend to think such a person wouldn't be willfully ignorant, but he is enthralled by Floyd Rose vibrato bridges so I'm sure he's familiar with cognitive dissonance <grin>

Nah cagey, I know Doug loves em, I'm just cheeky. I just don't dig floyds, like the sound and look of bigsbys. That will do me, call ne a traditionalist :)

From that point of view, I can't disagree. I think Bigsbys are beautiful, almost like works of art - all smooth and curvy and flowing. Floyds also appeal to my aesthetic sense just because I'm a machinery kind of guy and those things are like watchworks; 80 bajillion little parts, all hopefully working in concert. But, I wouldn't use either, because I'm a practical little cuss. I want simplicity, reliability, longevity and repeatability out of my instruments.

That's fair enough cagey! I just have to have something with a bigsby :)

I understand. I think if you lined up 100 people who'd never played a guitar in their lives and showed them the same guitar with a Bigsby, a Floyd, and a Wilkie, you'd probably get 80% saying the Bigsby is the desirable one, 15% thinking the Floyd was the whip, and 5% who didn't give a damn so they picked the Wilkie.

Silly humans <grin>

I'd be disgruntled at the fact there isn't any hardtails.  :laughing7:

They fit in a small section of the "don't give a damn" category <grin>

If you use a good unit on a guitar set up for it, then you also have the luxury of not giving a damn. I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it, so I want something that doesn't get in my way but is capable of doing a yeoman's job when called upon. Locking tuners are a given as far as I'm concerned, even on a hardtail, if for no other reason than they just make you life so much easier. So, what's left? The nut. You can use modern materials, an LSR, or that disfiguring monstrosity that's part of the Floyd "system". In all cases, you eliminate quite a bit of variablilty in tuning, so you pays yer munny and you makes yer choice.
