Anyone knocked the edges of a soloist? I'm curious about a soloist with at least the roundover the strat has (1/2) or even 3/4". Anyone done it around here?  How'd it turn out? Got pics? How'd you handle the tummy cut transition?

Not an answer but more of a continuation of the discussion.  I’m not sure what the term roundover is but I will assume it is regard to the body edge radius.

What has always been curious to me is that there never seems to be a consensus on what the correct or original radius (radii?) is for a Strat, etc.  Stewart McDonald claims it’s 7/16”.  I never did dig Ibanez RGs, et al much ‘cause they just seem too danged pointy but Jackson Dinkys and Soloists seem OK.  I’ve read that Charvel used “smaller” radii on their various Uberstrats (e.g. 3/8”) but I’ve never seen anything conclusive on this.

I think W's are 3/8'', -that being said, I would imagine 1/2" would be pushing it, and 3/4" would be just crazy-round! -Like no flat part on the sides at all.

-But I guess I'd like to listen in on this one; got a '51 P-bass that is a bit too edgy (3/16") for me that I may wish to knock the corners off of if/when I refinish it.

That's the idea. Once I started looking about, I think I found at least part of the reason.

3/4 roundover is a big bite, it takes a lot of motor, and appears to be pushing the limits of handheld routers.  On a 1 3/4" body, there'd still be a 1/4" flat left, but yeah, it's not real visible. Warmoth's soloist appears to be a sharper roundover than the Strat, but I was curious about a combination of pointy outline but rounded edges. Like throwing a soloist in the tumbler for a couple weeks.

I think Ibanez or ESP one has something sorta like that, maybe a Satriani model? Anyway.. something to chew on for a while.

The Ibanez Satriani is something a bit different, it's more like a progressive carving than a constant round-over. The lower portion of the body near the jack could be what you're thinking about:

I'm not sure how that would work on a Soloist body though.
