Ok guys here's the new Tele with the neck. Some Tru-Oil on the body. I dyed the basswood with a golden walnut dye. It's different than the neck but I am finding it very much to my liking. To me looks like Koa and Rosewood had a baby. Here's the pics so far:

I put a tummy cut and heel contour on the body. Contoured the lower horn. Set it up for recessed bolt ferrules. The dyed back resembles the skunk-stripe and I really am loving the color. It changes hues nicely in light at different angles. Hard to photograph. The oil is really popping the flame. Still on course for black hardware and BK Piledrivers. But I have a lot of finishing ahead of me before we get there.

Wow man that looks awesome! I'm glad the basswood took the color so well. In my head it is one of those woods that is finicky about dyes. Keep going!

That is really something! I've never seen curly spalted before. It's a very attractive top. Not too much of any one thing, so it's classy-looking rather than ostentatious.

Agreed.  It's often best to let the wood do the talkin' for you (get your mind out of the gutter!) when it's as nice as that.  Gilding the lily ought to be avoided as a general rule.

Did you stabilize the spalted maple with superglue?
I did, but It felt as if it had already been fortified. Better to play it safe I thought.

Very nice! How many coats of Tru -oil?
Only about 4 coats in the picture.

I agree. Ostentatious was the last guitar, although it was more to get the wife's attention than everyone else. This one I really wanted to see the grain and have a more earthy feel.

No one should be allowed to have two Warmoths that look so awesome.  :party07:

But I must say, that's a cool looking spalt, I like how the flame runs down the center, it flows well with the flame neck...Kudo's Kuro.... :headbang:

That's gorgeous!  Spalt + Blackhardware = classy!

I'm surprised the basswood took the dye - isn't that supposed to be an "undyeable" wood that's suitable for solid finishes only?  Apparently not!  Well done.  :hello2:

Thank you DR6, I like how the flame extends to the very edge but fades slowly. Although it's hard to show it in the pics.

I read it was hard to dye as well, but just thought I'd give it a shot and if it looked horrible I'd just do a solid color. I just used Golden walnut dye from WoodWorkers Supply (a place here in Albuquerque) mixed it with alcohol and rubbed it in until I liked what I saw. At first it was very yellow but as I kept going the reds and browns started to darken and the grain has some black hues to it. Very 3D like.

Are you putting a maple veneer on the headstock?
I won't be adding a veneer, The neck is already finished and I really like the light walnut showing. The contrast is pretty much why I choose this neck. Also I think a flamed veneer would be a bit much, spalted maybe but I'm 100% happy with it as is. I can picture a spalted body, ebony fretboard, spalted headstock in my head. But I'll catalog that idea with all the rest I can't afford to build right now.

All the black hardware should be here Friday. But i'm still dumping the Tru-oil on and I still haven't leveled and dressed the frets. Stoopid work getting in the way.
