Ok So I'm starting with this:

Not bad right?

I decided there is not enough flamed koa on this beauty.
So were going to inlay some more in the back. Penciled out where I want it first.

Routed with a dremel.

Penciled my characters on a veneer of koa 2mm thick and cut it out very carefully..

I glued the pieces in and let it dry overnight. Sanded the surface flat and level.
Here it is wet.

I will build the control cavity cover from a nice piece of wenge and maybe inlay some sakura cherry blossom in it to go with my samurai theme. You may notice I modded the heel to be more like an Ibanez AANJ. I prefer that feel.

I will be putting a nice flame koa veneer on the headstock then I'll cut that out. More pics soon.

Sweet!

How about some cherry blossom inlays on the neck?

I wish, I'm not that good yet. I've seen that one before, I love it. And that would be a very nice touch. But my skill set isn't there yet.

SEZ YOU!! Personally, I'd say you're a force of nature! Amazing, precise, and tasteful work.

Gorgeous!  But I missed a step here.  How did you get the "pencil sketch" from the back of the guitar onto the veneer?

If you contacted Larry Robinson, I'm sure he'd put together some cherry blossom inlays you could do yourself.  He's pretty good....

I would imagine he had it sketched out on stencil paper first, and therefor would be able to transfer same drawing to both mediums...That's what I'd have done... :dontknow:

You got it! I just used the same stencil on both to know they would be exactly the same. I did have to slightly widen the rout in the walnut and make adjustments in a few places after dry fitting the the koa pieces.

Ok posting an update here too. I'm getting excited about his one so far. Everything has sealer on it, So nothing is finished.

New heel neck pocket. I also sculpted the heel of the neck to match this.

The headstock is cut and veneer in place. Also made a wenge truss cover.

So I made a control cavity cover from wenge. And routed it for a koi fish.

Skip a few steps (sorry forgot to take pics) and inlaid some flamed koa and flamed maple outlined in ink to get this.

It really has to be seen in person as you angle it through the light.

In case you guys are wonder why I like stuff on the back of my guitars it's because the rack on stage has them all facing away from me. Gives ya something to look at that way. Or that's how I tell them apart. Or i simply have no good reason.

WOWZA  :o

That's some mighty fine work Mr Kuro  :headbang:

Loving it all.  :glasses9: ..... great work !!
