This one is still a work in progress. I had been wanting a Hendrix styled Strat, and nearly pulled the trigger on one of the Fender MIM Strats, but decided to build my own. I picked up a botched relic job on a cheap Asian Strat with an Allparts neck.  I stripped the body and did a purple dye job with Tru Oil. I bought a Warmoth neck reverse RH neck and a reverse slant pickguard. The junker Strat had a universal route, which allowed me to reverse the pickups.

The neck is flame maple with dark Indian rosewood. I was looking for something different, and I happened across patina copper veneer.

Decided to do a dyed headstock.

Needed a neckplate for the vibe, and found this:

And of course, the right strap.

But, the crappy seven-piece body has to go. So, to replace it is a Warmoth one piece alder body, purple dye with MinWax wipe on poly.

A few more coats of poly and I can transfer the parts over to their new home.

Nice! I really like it!

I'm assuming that you just stripped and dyed the headstock with the same batch of dye from the body, yes? I'm considering doing an alder body and roasted maple and will be dying the headstock to match as well.

That is killer.  I love the pick guard too.
Pick up is a great idea.  I believe that is how the Jake E Lee signature strat comes from Fender.  Makes sense

Man I love this guitar!  I've played some laminate bodied guitars that resonated like bells. She's plenty sweet!

Interesting colors.

I noticed that the new body is for a two post tremolo and the old one has a six screw mounting. What bridge are you going for?

I really like that pickguard where did you get it ?

I bought a Strat pickguard and used 3M 77 spray adhesive to bond patina copper veneer.  I was looking for something different, and happened across the copper veneer sheets. (The pattern is Bamboo Forest. It had just enough purple to make it go with the color scheme.) Required a lot of trimming/smoothing, but definitely worth it.

I bought a GFS American Strat bridge. I've never tried a two-point bridge, so in the interests of science, I went for the option I hadn't tried.

That should do it. Reasonably priced parts also.

Seven piece body, or not - I like the look of it!

Thanks!

I did this mostly as an experiment, but I like how the body turned out. There is actually some interesting figuring in some of the pieces, and in sunlight you can really see it. I sealed the body with Tru Oil, then sanded it before the dye. I also applied dye to the Tru Oil midway through. I mixed the TransTint dye with denatured alcohol and mineral spirits, and blended in into the Tru Oil with a rag.

Here's a pic in sunlight.

This thing was a total wreck when I got it. Someone had attempted a relic job with a power sander on a red Strat, then painted it over in silver, and did it badly. Couple pics when I was taking it apart:

The contours were all like this, and had to be rounded off by hand.

I still have the Allparts maple neck it came with. When I move the parts over, I'm going to do a light relic job (just finish wear, nothing crazy) and put the original neck and pickguard back on.
