I haven't been on this board much since last October.  The jewelry store my wife and I bought has kept me busy.  I'm not really surprised at how much extra work owning a business is, but I am surprised at how much less like "work" it feels.  Even when I've been busy for 15 straight hours with repairs, paperwork, selling, sweeping, etc.  Its also not really bothering me that I haven't paid myself yet, I've spent the money on the store instead.

I've had lots of happy customers.  We're selling jewelry.  I have a guy who is buying his wife a $12,000 diamond ring for their 50th anniversary.  I've been learning and expanding the inventory.    ANd I've devised a few ways to work the guitar angle.

We're in our Christmas rush right now.  So I'm a happy boy.

Ha, that's a nice ad.

Seems like the Christmas rush is the perfect time to start the business. It will let you cover the main costs better than any other time of the year.

I've always figured that most people that run their own business, they tell you "oh it's a lot of work and lots of hours"

most are afraid to tell you it can be a fun kinda work, because they don't want everyone opening a business

Great to hear it's working out. If you can sell jewelry when times are this tough, you'll be doing fantastic when the economy recovers a bit. Glad you're enjoying it too.

We've taken a hint from Little Ceasers and have begun dancing at the corner with signs while singing Christmas Carols.  Its actually generated sales.  And the kids love it.
