It's here! - BK CT Tele Satin Finish, UC Ipe on Walnut Warhead

My Ipe neck was the same.  In the UC, it showed up as almost a maple color, but when I got it, it was actually almost a walnut color.

Maybe the wood is too reflective, making photography difficult. How smooth is it? My understanding is it's very dense and hard, even more so than Ebony in some instances, but the grain looks sorta coarse.

The fretboard is amazing!

Not to hijack, but since I've started using the electosocket, I haven't gone back.  I also use them with right angle cord ends.  Cagey's insistence of the implied funnel and just right cables is because he set it up that way.

That coarse grain look must be on optical illusion.  It's not an open grain like rosewood, but it's not quite as hard and dense like ebony or maple.  Maybe closer to canary?

It's probably just me being petty. But, the deep concave shape of the thing leads me to believe the design intent was to make it easy to funnel the plug into the socket, so you're not fumbling around trying to find a hole you can't see easily. But, unless you recess the jack back in the socket, you end up with a lip at the bottom of the "funnel", so you actually fumble around more trying to get the plug in. Then, once you've got the socket mounted deep enough for the funnelling action to work, then you've got to have a straight plug that's chamfered around its shoulder, or it won't plug all the way in. And forget about angled plugs. No way you can use those.

So, you end up with a guitar that needs a cord whose ends are just right, which to me is NFG. Cords fail. Replacements are easy - usually. But, not when they have special requirements.
Many thanks! I'll scratch the electrosocket and go with a square plate. Don;t want to recess the jack as I use Neutrik shorting plugs.

I[ve come around on the neck.  No, it's not the same color as I was thinking it would be from the UC pic, but it is still a sweet neck in its own right.

Kind of like if a doctor told you you were having a girl from an ultrasound, and then a good lookin' boy popped out instead.

That's kinda like my experience with my LP build. At first, I was shocked (and admittedly, a little disappointed) that it wasn't at ALL what I was expecting, but darned if I didn't completely fall in love with the thing anyway.

Regardless, you've got yourself a really nice, unique instrument there!  :icon_thumright:
