Hey everyone! I am back from the dead. Between moving out of my native state (22 years in good old New York) and starting a career, I haven't even been giving my guitars the googly eyes, let alone playing them.

Finally I have gotten back into it, and they mean it when they say distance makes the heart grow fonder. I also have finally started making my rounds again on my forums.

So how is everyone doing? Did I miss anything?

Welcome back! I hope your move is going well for you.

Umm.. wasn't it you I got that Mahogany L5S body from? If so, and if it's been a while, you might want to review this thread.

Also, it won GOM last month.

i like the keyboard discussion in that thread. unicomp is ok but they might not have full n-key rollover. i tried to google it but one member of a keyboard forum get a response that it "supports many 5-6 key combinations but not all of them" or something to that effect. since they only excluded 5-6 key combos it could mean it supports 4key rollover rather than the standard 2 which basically means there is atleast one combo of 2 keys that will prevent reading any more key presses. i'm not sure i'd need 6 key rollover but 2key is garbage and i can't be sure a unicomp keyboard isn't 2-key rollover.

my brother can type over 140wpm. and he has a lot of trouble with modern keyboards because of rollover issues. when you go that fast you are bound to press 3 or more keys at the same time. actually he once found a modern design that felt good but when it encountered rollover problems at high speed it would print "WTFPOOOOOOOOOOWND" in the middle of his sentence!!! their customer support thought he made it up but some coder their thought a nice easter egg was the best way to deal with standard (but inferior) key mapping...

oh and welcome back!!!

Y'know, seems like I tested the n-key rollover function on those things, but I don't remember the result. It must have been acceptable to me, or the memory would have stuck better. I don't feel like digging one out now to test it, but I may soon. I have a Logitech 'board on another machine that I bought mainly for the mouse, but also because it was wireless. It's a pretty nice unit, as modern 'boards go, but as it works out I just can't type worth a damn on the thing so I'm going to have to replace it.

The only real downside to the Unicomps that I found was the keycaps aren't double-molded. On the IBM units, you can't wear the characters off the keys because they're molded into the cap in a contrasting color. The Unicomps are painted on, and while they do a good job, fingernails will eventually get the best of them and you start losing cap identifiers. Generally speaking, I don't need the characters, but every once in a while...

Haha yeah Cagey that was me. I saw the win for GOTM but couldnt find the thread, thanks for linking it.

I knew that thing would end up being awesome :icon_thumright:

Thanks! I'm pretty please with how it turned out, too.

Now I've got an urge to do it again, but I'm thinking Tele this time. I wanna copy Bagman's gorgeous GOTM/GOTY winning piece, but kick it up a notch with multi-layer binding and Bill Lawrence pickups.
