Hi everyone. I am currently building a swamp ash strat with a HSS pickup configuration and was looking into using a schaller sureclaw. I read online that the screws often pop out of the middle pickup route but Ive seen some people who had it installed just fine. is there a specific way to install the sureclaw and is the sureclaw better than a normal spring claw system?

I put a Schaller Sureclaw in my purpleheart guitar, mainly because the thought of screwing in those big screws for the standard claws into purpleheart gave me nightmares!

I like it, had no problems installing it, the guitar doesn't have a middle pickup though.

The downsides are, that it adds weight and you can't angle the springs.

The upside:
The guitar has a free floating trem and I know it's two full rotations to adjust the tension between D standard and drop C... takes just a few seconds to do so!

Therefore I highly recommend drilling the hole in the trem cover as described in the manual.

For me half the charm of a trem strat is the resonance of the springs, why damp them?

Because, if you hear it too much, it gets very annoying, very quickly. And with the amount of gain and the style of music I play, that was the case. 😅

I actually use the trem to do dive bombs, squeals and other FX, otherwise I wouldn't have one.

Nevertheless, I want the foam out pronto!!
