In My Time of Dyeing

I am getting prepared for my next build.  It will be a Tele with Flame Maple front and back and Mahogany in the middle.  I would like to dye the maple (bright color burst) using the black dye and sandback method, but want the Mahogany to be a natural color.

Is there any trick to get a perfect line without the dye bleeding through the maple to the mahogany, or will the glue naturally prevent that.  In addition to fine-line tape, to protect the sides of the mahogany (as well as fill it) I was thinking of using an epoxy grain filler before dyeing the top.

Any suggestions? (yes, I'm going to practice before messing up $300 in lumber  :icon_thumright:)

Try grain filling and using some shellac on the mahogany first.  Then tape.

Also try not to have the rag soaking wet with dye.  Rub it into the finish. Do not soak.

It will bleed if not careful.

Thanks!  I'm going to pick up some scrap boards next week and give it a shot.
