I'm bored, so I thought I would post some in-progress pics. the neck scallop has four coats of tru-oil, the last last coat is still wet. The headstock front and back face both have 10 coats of black lacquer, the lacquer has been drying for a week. I'll give it two more weeks and then wet sand the orange peel off. I am planing on putting another 20 or coats of tru-oil but over the entire neck and then buff glossy.

That's a nice deep black. What are you using? I've given thought to getting some of the Rattle Can black nitro StewMac sells.
Good job so far!

It's funny how the photo's make the orange peel look way worse than it really is.

I wouldn't wait so long to wet sand, I usually sand the next day, and in some cases, good weather and fast drying paint, I've sanded the same day.

It's gonne be a bummer if you wait 3 weeks to sand, then sand through the paint.

Yes it would.  I normally wait for the lacquer to set before I sand, what do you experts say.. tonar, dmraco, well?

I've painted about 8 guitars now, they look as good as any, but wait for the experts to chime in

20?  Is that normal?
some go 10, some go 40. I like real thin layers. Plus I plan to wet sand and buff.

I had some free time after work. I removed the tape, sanded and cleaned the over spray off the sides of the headstock, and got 1 coat of true-oil on the sides of the headstock. I still have yet to wet sand the headstock face and back.

Niiiiiiiiiice, I like pointy stuff.... :headbang1:

What's this fine piece of maple going to be hanging on? :dontknow:

It's a replacement for the fiberglass guitar. I had an offer I just could not refuse for the angled strat neck that was on it originally.

I went ahead and wet sanded the headstock face and back, eliminated the orange peel. I decided to set up a hill billy drying rack and start the tru-oil process. I'm on the second coat and everything looks good. I decided to try putting tru-oil over the lacquer. looks good now but only time will tell how it holds up down the road.
