Yeah, I know, but I've been corrected many times on it. I even fondled a 1" x 5" x 3' wenge board at the Woodcrafter's store the other day, and when I commented on it to the salesman, he pronounced it "wen gay", too. Those guys know their wood. Wish I could remember what they wanted for it, but I saw so many exotic woods that day I got a bit saturated.

Wenge (pronounced /ˈwɛŋɡeɪ/ WENG-gay) is a tropical timber, very dark in color with a distinctive figure and a strong partridge pattern. The wood is heavy and hard, suitable for flooring and staircases. It also gives its name to the colour wenge.

Just tell them next time you know what it is and how to pronounce it, and to stop being so anal. And they go away and leave you to your shopping...Works every time... :toothy12:

Hehe! Yeah, at most retail stores these days I can be quite obnoxious with little provocation or thought, but I don't behave that way at Woodcrafter's. Those guys know their stuff, and are willing to share their knowledge. I'd be a fool to be disrespectful, disdainful, inconsiderate or anything less than polite; I'd be shooting myself in the foot. They go out of their way for their customer base, and they're all pros with an almost encyclopedic knowledge of wood and woodworking tools/techniques. I don't know if all the stores in the chain are that way, and it's probably unlikely they are, but this one certainly is.

Besides, I'm not sure you understood my post, or perhaps I wasn't clear. I pronounced it "wen gay", and so did he. The wiki backs us up - look at the phonetic spelling they use.
