Hipshot Bass Xtenders

Has anyone done a bass with 4 Hipshot Bass Xtenders all the way around? Kind of like the ridiculously expensive bass that Micheal Manring uses but with the Hipshot hardware. I just ordered one for my E string, but I reall want to have 4 of them for extreme playing flexibility!  :headbang1:

I don't know if any of Warmoth's headstock shapes will allow for it.
The main concern I would have is weight. The headstock could get pretty heavy with four detuners.

I know that Tony Franklin has a detuner on his G string, as well as the E. He was seen flipping it in a video.

Ah I see. Thanks for the info! I ordered a single hipshot last week just to use as a tester for the bass I'm building.

They're pretty big. For BML's there's no way they would fit:

Not sure about smaller tuner types on a 2+2 headstock. Be quite pricey anyways.

It doesn't look like the inline headstocks would be able to work, perhaps the 2x2 shapes?

The size of the tuner is irrelevant. It's the room you have to move the lever that matters.

I guess I'm not sure what the advantage is, really, for the other strings. I mean, the note you would be tuning down to is already right there on the third fret of the next lower string. Unless it's unisons and droney stuff for which you need to be at certain notes. I guess I answered my own question.

Indeed, you did. But also, to go into half step or full step drop tuning.

Btw, I can't remember where I saw it, but there is a bass out there with two detuners, and a specially designed lever that allows both to move at the same time when only one lever is flipped.

The advantage I was looking for was to have a range of harmonics available to me. I mean just listening to anything by Micheal Manring and what he does with harmonics is incredibly inspiring. But I did recieve my Hipshot in the mail this weekends, and the spacing on the regular Warmoth style head is too close to allow more than one of the Hipshots on the head. Oh well, at tleast I have the ability to quick drop tune!

Ok, I know it can be done with Gotoh Xtenders. Micheal Manring's Hyperbass uses the Gotohs. I think you just have to have the right headstock to mount the Xtenders on, which I don't unfortunately. Here's pics of Manring's headstock and what my setup is looking like.

The Zon website lists Hipshot detuners. I was not aware that Gotoh made detuners. Doesn't Hipshot have a patent?

Ya I suppose I said it wrong, the detuner is a Hipshot mounted on a Gotoh machine head. I'm not sure if Hipshot makes both the xtender and the head or just the xtender...
