Anyones thoughts on or have used a Hipshot 'Baby Grand' piano bridge ?
If so, pic's would be nice too  :glasses9:

Suppose I need a angled neck pocket when using these too ? …. on a strat body.

:icon_scratch: Curious

I really love the look of the baby grand bridge!  I would like to use one someday; I just have not come across the right build for it yet.
Here are the only pics that I have seen using the baby grand.  They are from another forum and someone posted them on the UWF some time ago.
Be sure to post some pics if you use one.  Good luck &  :rock-on:

Was actually HOPING wouldn't need angle pocket, because I was thinking of SSH wood mounted on Strat body.

:icon_scratch: Now I wonder if a recessed rout is required or even work with it ?
Then could get sitting down on the body.

Any body know for sure if needed a angled pocket ?

I'm not to sure on the proper rout for the Hipshot Baby Piano !!

Thanks for any insight  :icon_thumright:

This doesn't look angled ..... Weird but not angled

Looking at the pdf diagram, and assuming the stud is mounted flush, the minimum height from body to the top of the middle string's saddle is .5". If that's low enough to get the action you want, then the only other thing to worry about is the string break, and that looks fine to me compared to other top load bridges.

But you could always ask Hipshot about it to be sure. If you send them an e-mail, they've always gotten back to me within a few days.

I think it would need an angled pocket, because it's supposed to be a replacement for the GIbson wrap-around bridge, like the Gotoh 510. The Gotoh needs an angled pocket, therefore the Baby Grand would too.

If you're using a trem, Fender, WIlkinson etc., or a Fender American Standard or similar fixed bridge, they are not as tall as the wrap-around style, so therefore no angled pocket.

If I'm wrong, then I will defer to someone with more experience.

A call to Warmoth, or an email to them or Hipshot should answer this easily.

I e-mailed Hipshot about this, here is the response:

Thank you for your questions about our Baby Grand Bridges.
The Baby Grand was designed for instruments with a neck angle much like the types that use the Tunomatic style bridges.
This is not to say that it would not work with other type of guitars, but some planning would be needed by the builder to allow for the height differences between this bridge and say a hardtail.

Thanks all  :icon_thumright: especially @drewfx for sending email (I never got round to it  ) ... cheers

For this build I was thinking of, I don't think this would be the right one to use for me.
Doesn't match in with my other spec's.
But .... I do want to do one someday having one of the Baby Grand Bridges.

Hey @Mayflown  :icon_biggrin:
Yep noticed the Piezo models ... But after owning the Gib DarkFire .... Not very interested with Piezo on guitar bridges any more.
Sound, way to brittle for my liking.
I can still get the Piezo sound (if I ever need) using any of my GK-3 guitars into the VG-99 or the GR-55

Thanks again all for your help :icon_thumright:
