Alright guys, figuring out things and ordering parts where/when I can!  I just want to say thanks to everyone here again because I'm learning a TON of new info as I do this project...so I've taken the advice of a few guys on this forum and decided to go bare with no pickguard and dual hbs.  Just got in my pickups yesterday, the neck and hardware are on order as we speak with Warmoth...maple neck with an ebony fingerboard and no face dots.  I think the red/black combo is gonna be killer!  I ended up going with Rockfield Mafia pickups instead of the EMG H4/H4As...  I'm still not totally sold on how this guitar will look since it's not what I initially anticipated, but I'm getting hellaexcited with seeing these pickups in here!  Pics for those who like:

I think these cases are the coolest dang things.

Couldn't help but get a shiny pic in there...

Gotta love having a pool table as a backdrop...hehe

Are you going to mount the pups directly into the wood, or are using a bridge mount and small pickguard?  :headbang:

Candy red, yep.  I'm using a humbucker tele bridge, and a standard pickup ring for the neck pup...

Yea, the Hellecasters are awesome...was going to originally call this guitar the Hellecaster, then realized that I'm not very good at guitar so they wouldn't appreciate the association heheh I might have to check the size, I think they're a standard size but now you have me wondering!

Cool Tele, and those pick ups must be bad ass if they come in their own vaults.... :icon_thumright:

Looks like it was routed post-finish, and originally had the standard TxT rout.

Looks pretty nice.  Those cases would be sweet for good but orphaned pickups that I didn't just want to bag-and-tag for the bin.

Is it just me or are those pickup routes really nasty?

Was it a blem?

To me, the bridge pup route looks like it had been routed for a tele pickup, and then later routed for a humbucker.

To me, the bridge pup route looks like it had been routed for a tele pickup, and then later routed for a humbucker.

And the neck looked like it was originally done for the Tele single coil then made larger for the humbucker. Is that the usual way that Warmoth does that sort of adjustment? I agree that the routing does look a little rough as a result.

Still once a mounting ring is on there, you wouldn't know the difference, so it's all good. :icon_thumright:

I always wondered how those HB over Tele routes would look!  If I ever get a Tele it will probably be routed H-H but have Tele pickups.  (I like to keep my options open :))

You guys are bang-on...the body was originally routed for two tele pups and was a showcase body, but being pretty green and low on wisdom I got W to route out the holes for HxH...this was a mistake on my part.  dbw, I was thinking the exact same thing in that I originally wanted this guitar to be a standard Tele but have the option to run humbuckers if I wanted to...the neck pup hole would be ok running a pickguard, but the bridge pup hole is just slightly too large for the standard Tele bridge - you'll see a slit of open hole on each side of it.  I was also thinking of running a half Tele bridge and a pickup ring on the bridge pup, but again my idea backfired hehe because the tele hole is a little too big at the bottom to be covered by a standard ring.  I was hoping to get the Seymour Duncan Triple Shot ring for the neck, to help with coil-tapping, but they're backordered anytime I check Musician's Friend.  And I can't order if they're on backorder because I'm from the great white north...can't they just postpone and send the dog team to my igloo when they come in? Heheh.

As for the pickups, they were actually cheapish, I paid $59 US each for them - I'm kinda anxious to plug them in and see how they sound!

I'm starting to get even more anxious for the whole project now...W states my order as waiting to ship!  Hands shaking...or that could be the Coors Light/Smirnoff Ice/Red Bull I just had...hehe

instead of coil tapping, a lot of folks get a five way switch for a tele in this situation.
1)bridge single coil
2)bridge humbucker
3)bridge and neck humbucking
4)neck humbucker
5)neck single coil

New stuff!

Plan to start assembly soon...there's a couple of things I need to pick up in Edmonton, but other than that, most of it's here...

Sweet neck joint action!

A rough mock-up of how it'll all come together.  I can't tell if it's only because it's my first build, but I'm really liking how this'll look.  Maybe it's a face only a father can love type deal? hehe

Like you said in another post, slap some black primer onto the bare wood cavities.  Looks good with the neck on especially with no dot markings.

I love the look of this guitar, black and red together are a couple of my fav colour combos.
