Heel Truss Rod Starting Point - Bass Neck

I'm assembling a J-bass. The Warmoth necks come with a heel adjustment and, unlike their guitar necks, there is no side adjust fine-tuner.

Are there an suggested starting points to get the neck "close" to the correct bow before assembly? I know the bow will change as the strings are tightened and I don't want to chase my tail and take the strings off a dozen times trying to get the neck bow set.

On a similar note, let's say I assemble the neck and find the relief isn't where I want it. Any rule of thumb to follow making adjustments to avoid the same chasing of tail?

Having built many basses with Warmoth j necks, many haven't needed any adjustments at all. Of course YMMV, but I suggest leaving the hex wrench in the tool bag until until you have it actually built.

One thing I usually do is remove the pickguard before stringing. Then I check/adjust the truss rod, unstring, reinstall the pg, and restring.
