Headstock Logos: Same song 2nd verse

We had another "Fender logo and a Warmoth neck" thread pop up.  In this case the OP got the last word and locked the thread like any mature adult interested in a discussion would do.  He and I were pm'ing each other 'til he blocked that too.  The OP said he's contacting Fender to make them aware of this practice of people modifying their private property.  Laughable, IMO.

These threads don't change anybody's mind and might as well be about the death penalty, religion, abortion, or politics.  For anyone intersted, here is the locked thread.  Feel free to comment here.  it won't be locked, nor will I block any members pm'ing me.

Yea, I read that thread too and thought he was rather wacky...
Will the person that appointed this guy to be the logo police please identify themselfs!!!

The guy made no sense, sure putting fender logos on warmoths maybe bit odd, but hey every human to there own, besides half of the necks are fender licensed, so tbh fender pretty much have said, "You can make our necks long as there right quality" which would imply "So they can be associated to be fender necks too" so he is talking a right load of monkeys to be honest. but hey, wonder how far he will get with fender... email sent... ten years later no reply i bet, they probably wont care.
Im not even sure if i could put a decal on my bass headstock, its a thing of beauty without corporate marketing so to speak :P , and its got a bit of battle damage from tuner installing with a metal thick plyers type thing, before i tighten my electronics on going to get a rubber plyers or least wiht covers to not scratch it, anyways, thats another topic :D

You guys all know that I've made my feelings on Fender logos very clear in previous threads, but Christ! I have no words to express how fricking stupid that is. Where is the brain that should be in the OP's head? :icon_scratch: ???

First off, putting Fender logos on Warmoth necks is something that the end user chooses to do. Warmoth will not apply ANY decals to their necks. You can't stop a person from sticking a decal on a headstock though. Once you've sold a product, the end user can do whatever they want with it.
Second, Warmoth has a license from FMIC to use the headstock shapes. I think Fender knows damn well what Warmoth is up to, given that they gave Warmoth a license to use their designs.

This is supposed to be the link to the FMIC licensing agreement, but for some reason, it's not opening for me.

Don't know if it's an annual fee, a per item fee, or a combination of both, but Fender is getting paid everytime a licensed neck is sold.

In the case of Slash and his ghost built LP, this has probably been a gold mine for Gibson.  His most famous one isn't even a Gibby but says it is.  Gibson has probably sold countless Les Pauls because Slash played one, or did he?

Just catching up here - wow missed that other thread completely.

I better watch out for those fender police!  :o

i was pretty disappointed he locked that thread too. when you start a thread about something as controversial as headstock logos AND you elect to fight about it then you can't just lock the thread when you don't get the answers you were looking for.

i'm kind of on the fence. i understand why people use them. almost used fender logos myself. decided against it. i think it's a little funny to try to "alert" fender to the problem. of course they know. he'll either get an email back saying "thanks for the information, we'll look into it." (yeah right). or he'll be ignored along with all the other Dudly Do Right whistleblowers out there.

i get why some people might be offended by this sort of thing, and might see it as fraud. but i stand by my Shelby Cobra kit car analogy i made in the last thread. you wouldn't put all that money and effort into getting every detail right just to name your Shelby Cobra kit car "Shabby Cabro." not going to happen. you're going to put "Shelby Cobra" across that thing and you're going to be damn proud of it. Carroll Shelby takes a bit of pride in having the most mimicd car in the world. i bet fender does too.

I wonder if he's finding some kind of unofficial shelby forum to warn them about the shelby police coming to drive your crappy copy off the road and rape your eye sockets for the trouble.

I've yet to figure out why this is such a "controversial" issue in the first place. No one is on here claiming to have made a genuine article (and really, why would you?), so who the hell cares if a headstock logo stuck on a one-off custom instrument says "Fender" or "Bastardcaster" or whatever. Yeesh. I also think the Slash analogy is a really good one.

As I've stated before, to me, it's an issue of illogicality.

Warmoth is not Fender, and thus, placing a Fender logo on a Warmoth headstock incorrectly identifies the manufacturer of the guitar as Fender, even though Fender did not produce the instrument in question.

I'm going to buy a Fender decal and put it on the back of my car, so everyone thinks that it's a Fender instead of Toyota.

Here's how I look at it.

If you own it, and want to trick others, but NOT sell it, go ahead!
If you are SELLING IT, and are trying to trick others, tisk tisk!
If you are BUYING IT, and get tricked, rage!

In the case of Slash, he knew it wasn't a Gibby, the seller didn't sell it as a Gibby, and Les Paul's look odd without something on their headstocks.

Personally, I hate corporation, so no Fender logo will be on my strats anytime soon. I actually just used an angle grinder to get the Fender logo off of a real strat lately. It is a friends. He modded it to the point that it wasn't really a strat.

An angle grinder?
You mean you used one of these to remove a decal from a headstock?

And btw. Google image search for "angle grinder" brings up DISTURBING things.
