Any suggestions on putting a headstock logo on a raw canary neck? I'm building two guitars for my winter project and I'd like to do something special on the headstocks. I put a logo on the back of the headstocks with a woodburner and it looks okay, but it was just straight lines and I'd like something with curves on the front. (I've tested burning curved letters on some scrap wood and they look terrible.) I'd rather keep the headstock finish-free, so building up a finish just for the sake of a waterslide is out. Semi-permanent adhesives don't seem to stick very well. Would sometime with a more "aggressive" adhesive, like the Warmoth logos, work better? Ideas?

I pondered logo on raw wood and decided against it. Primarily because any appliqué is going to require a clear coat. One idea I did have is to burn/etch/route/press something which can be filled - but I decided to just leave it unadorned.

Most trophy/engraving shops have laser etchers that can cut a logo into the peghead for you:

Now THAT is an awesome idea. I might still consider a drop fill on dark woods like wenge
I thought about laser etching. The main thing holding me back is that I'd like to do as much of the work myself as possible, and that includes things like custom forearm curves (which are turning out well) and this headstock logo. And price is a concern as well, as I have a design for each headstock and laser etching and branding (like Black Dog suggested) all have setup costs per design to figure in.
I ordered some "permanent adhesive", I'm going to see how that turns out—by testing it on the heel where nobody will see it, of course—before trying out other methods. And like swarfrat said, I may end up leaving it plain.

I'm planning to do a laser etch on mine. I'm still trying to decide what to place there, though. I've been thinking about going to a local tattoo shop to see if a guy would be willing to design something custom for me since I'm not much of an artist.

Previously, I had tried using Chartpak lettering—you know, the letters you put on mailboxes and such—they're suggested for indoor and outdoor use, so I figured they'd be good. No deal, they look good but you can just peel them right off like a Post-It note.
A couple days ago, I got some Duro lettering. Same deal, indoor and outdoor use, but they're listed as "permanent" and "pressure sensitive", kind of like the official Warmoth labels. I left a couple letters on for a day and they're stuck pretty well, even without cleaning the area beforehand. I was able to peel them off, but I had to scrape with my fingernails for a few seconds and they tore rather than slid off like the Chartpak letters.
So Duro may be the ones that work. They didn't leave any residue behind, so I'll just put them on the headstock like normal and see how it works after a few weeks/months.
