Thank you...yeah this is for my 15yr old son. He picked out the body style and finish, etc....and he'll get to pick out the pickups when we get to that point...lots of homework to do.
I don't know what a "turtle" is but I'll take your word for it!!! LOL
The mom and pop hardware store is genius!!! There aren't many left but we have a few around the area. I figured pilot drilling was an absolute necessity...the soap is a great tip too, thanks.
I will need LOTS of tips like the CTS pots. A neckplate is just another example of hardware I don't know about...LOL....you're gonna be a busy guy helping me through this build!!!
Thanks again...and thanks many more times in advance.
I did my first guitar with my dad when I was 15. I would work on it in shop class at school and bring it home and work on it with the old man
"The Turtle" is my affectionate name for Warmoth. Their logo is a turtle playing a guitar
The neckplate is the plate of metal behind where the neck attaches to the body. Like I said, Doug 'DangerousR6' does custom engraved plates. Send him your drawing, he mills or carves or etches or whatever it is that he does to them a design for you, a little more of a custom touch. here is a link to his thread on his neck plates:

Doug's thread has like 110 pages to it, but I'm pretty sure he posts up all of his custom work. Contact him, he is a great guy to do business with!! He does everything from a simple 'W' for warmoth, to some pretty artistic stuff. I'm really happy with the one he made me, I asked for stainless, and he dug around his shop to find me a suitable piece (after he tried unsuccessfully to sell me titanium!!)
And here is a link to my wood control covers:

I started that thread with my old screen name, which I no longer use, but I am very eager to get some of my wood covers on some of these beautiful examples of musical artistry. To me, nothing looks worse on an exotic wood guitar than an ugly black plastic control cover!!!
I'll be glad to help you out with whatever you might need. When I first joined I was all questions, but since I've been here a while, I try to stick to helping out whomever needs it. There are other guys on here that know their stuff too. I just like to type I guess.
Anyway, good luck with your build!!! post lots of pics of the whole process. I really like to hear about the father son projects especially!!!
