Halloween is coming up. Favorite horror movies?

The Audition is so effed up.  Holy crap.  I've only seen a few minutes of it and it totally disturbed me.  I love the original Omen!  So good!  The Evil Dead series is great.  I love those.  I saw Evil Dead 2 as a midnight movie in Santa Cruz with a bunch of stoned hippies, and it was amazing.  People were just yelling out amusing commentary through the whole thing.

Did anyone see Black Swan?  It wasn't really marketed as a horror movie, but it kind of was one in my opinion, just a little more artistically done than some others.

I saw this article (maybe on cracked?  I can't remember) about this guy who noticed stuff was being moved in his apartment here and there - just little things.  He couldn't figure out what was going on, so he set up a hidden camera.  He watched the footage and saw that as soon as he left his house, this woman came out of his kitchen cabinet and started walking around.  Apparently she had been living in his house for months and had just hid in the back of his kitchen cabinet whenever he was home.  That's a true story... now, that should be made into a horror movie.  So freaking creepy!

One of my favorite old weird movies is Scanners.

For some reason, that clip reminds me of the movie "Brainstorm". It wasn't really scary so much as spooky and exciting, thinking what if that could be done...

Of course, as is always the case with new technology the natural progression almost immediately is to go right to porn, so they record each other having sex, then trade electrodes and play it back.

Videodrome is pretty insane if you like weird horror.

You can't go wrong with early to mid-career Cronenberg for horror.  The Fly is always good for a few laughs, as is Dead Ringers.  But Videodrome will always hold a special place in my heart.

I used to watch/rent nothing but Horror movies until about 10 years ago... I used to love the Hellraiser type movies!
after that I lost interest for some reason. I still love movies with a "paranormal" theme, but can't be bothered with the gore movies anymore.

Event Horizon would have been the perfect movie if they hadn't had the sudden change for the last 20 minutes of the film.

I totally agree with this. I remember watching it and thinking 'what a great start' and then halfway through it just went in the wrong direction. Prometheus did the same thing.

As far as the good ones go I've enjoyed the Saw series, and Solaris for creepy-scary sci-fi, but my all-time favorites are Alien and Aliens.

I am not into the typical horror movies. I like horror stories placed into film, like Sleepy Hollow, place into film.

i used to work near sleepy hollow.

What ever you do, do not watch The Chernobyl Diaries.  One of the worst movies I have ever seen.

+1 to Army of Darkness.  More of a comedy than horror film to me.  It is best to watch that with friends and beer.

Any movies with Japanese kids freaks me out.  The Grudge part 1 and 2.  Not so much scary, just those damn Japanese kids.

Battle Royale was good, except for the subtitles.

Speaking of horrible horrifying flicks, Cujo is on right now. 20 minutes or so of setup, then an hour+ of some helpless chick and her unbalanced kid caught in a dead 1970 Ford Pinto with a rabid St. Bernard who's bound and determined to kill them because, well, just because. Why they ever made that flick is mystery for the ages. Night of the Lepus made more sense, if abject stupidity scares you.

Typical Stephen King film treatment, though. With a few notable exceptions (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, Misery, Stand By Me) just about all his novels read great, but were translated to garbage on the screen.

I read Cujo as a young lad, scarred the bejeeeesus out of me. But when the movie came out I was like...Meh, book was better, movie was rather boring of an hour and a half of a chick and kid in a car..

Same thing with the movie Phone Call or Phone Booth, whatever it was with Colin Ferrel in a phone booth for an hour and a half...(not a horror flick, but you get the idea,,)
