I'm sure someone here has to have this book. Personally, I feel that I do alright workin the innards of an electric guitar but there are things I wouldn't mind learning and/or seeng if I'm actually doing it right.

Does this book cover various wiring diagrams and set ups? Any and all information you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated. Mrs Mully my get this for me for x-mas.

12 pages of wiring diagrams in a 47-page chapter on guitar electronics, and you can trust them. The internet has so many millions of wiring diagrams, I've gotten to where I get several copies and check for consistency. But if its in the DE book, no need.

Setups (action, intonation) are exhaustively talked about, as are maintenance and a three-tiered repair structure; Basic, DIY, and Deep.

I strongly recommend it simply for a reference manual. I like being able to double-check things before I do them.

A good companion is Dan's How to Make Your Electric Guitar Play Great.

Since Christmas is coming, I'll take this chance to say that the Les Paul and Stratocaster Handbooks are disappointing; a lot of repeated info between them and even redundancy within the books.

Thanks for that, sounds like I'll enjoy it. Thanks also for the words on the LP and Strat books. Although I love my Warmoth guitar I have to admit that I have a very very deep fondness for Fender Strats too. I currently have an Eric Clapton model that I love to death. I would be a quick sell for a book on Fender guitars. Good to know that that one isn't recommended.

Absolute required reading for anyone here on the forum. I've read it 3 times (and that's just the 3rd edition) and I learn or remember new stuff every time. Do not pass go, do not collect $200... just buy the damn book...

Dude, this book is fantastic, a must have for any self-respecting guitarist! It does have a ton of wiring diagrams, and is super helpful

Yep, fingered through that one already. The book recommendations are there but there really isn't anything saying what is actually in the books themselves. I was wanting to know more about content before I ended up buying a book that, I may love to have, but doesn't have the information I'm looking for.

What did you decide on that purple guitar?

I forgot to mention that it has wiring diagrams for both bass and guitar, and some really cool stuff like custom things used by famous guitar players. I needed some info on mega-switches, and it has that stuff in there as well

Thanks for the recommendation. I just ordered a copy from Amazon for my upcoming build - hopefully it'll turn the mountains into speed bumps.  :guitaristgif:

Not too much yet.  I have to wait until it arrives and I can see it in person before I really know.  It's kind of a tricky color to work with.  I'm researching pups now.

That book is a great reference on many different topics, as well as an eye opener.  You may or may not find your specific answer in enough detail, but it helps out on SO many different things.  I definitely categorize it as a must have.

I think I've read my copy twice. Right now, I've got some wire insulation around my top few strings, like SRV, so they don't break as easily. Seems to be working.

I really appreciate all the info you guys, and gal, have been tossing in here. Looks like I'll be getting it. :headbang1:

The book is the best tool you can buy for getting your guitar set up right. The sections on BB KIngs, SRV's particular setups are alone worth the price.

This book sits on my work bench for when i go from Mr Know It All  :icon_thumright: to WTF  :icon_scratch:

Now that was a good one. I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to use that one.
