Good afternoon, all! New member! I just had a question about some tuners. I’m looking to get a new neck built for my Toronado and I’m wondering which route I would need for these Ratio Graphtech tuners. I’ve always had a hard time with this.

I’ve emailed Graphtech and they really weren’t helpful. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks!

The Ratio installation guide says the "machine head hole diameter is 7/16" [10mm]".  Though 7/16" is not 10mm, it's more like 11mm.

The question is whether they mean 10mm, in which case you'll probably want the Schaller/Sperzel 25/64" (9.92mm) tuner ream, or 7/16", in which case you'll likely want the Planet Waves 13/32" (10.32mm) ream.  You want them to be tight either way.  The best option would be to buy the tuners first and measure the bushing diameter, but I can understand not wanting to spend that money up front.

Edit: I found the actual specs on the website:  http://www.graphtech.com/docs/default-document-library/ratio-locking-machine-heads.pdf?sfvrsn=2

Based on that, you'll want the Schaller ream.

I appreciate that. The rep I spoke with stated that they were 10mm. Maybe I’ll go with the Schaller route. I’ve never had a neck built before so I’m quite new to this. Is there anything else I might need to do to the tuner before installing them?

You won't need to do anything to the tuner. The Schaller ream will work for you.

But most of them I think have a two pin design similar to those on Fenders, and you will also need to take care of drilling holes to locate them.
