Got Scartozi's 6 hole trem replacement

Man, I've seen these before obviously, but your A-B picks really show how much more attractive these are.  :o

So you intentionally ordered a body with the routing for a six-screw tremolo, so you could use the conversion bridge? :dontknow:

Correct  :icon_thumright:
At the time he started making these bridges, I didn't realise   he was going to be doing the hard tail ones like Cagey's is.
Otherwise I would have ordered or waited for a hardtail to show up in the showcase.
Plus I'd bought 2 of those proto types early on.

But you should know me by now, that I'm terrible when I see things on the showcase  :laughing7:
:dontknow: ..... Just can't help myself sometimes ......

Those pic's aren't the best, but the Aluminium bridge matches pretty darn good with the chrome pup rings.

Yeah .... again thanks Doug and Adam  :headbang: .... for your stellar work  :icon_biggrin:

We've all purchased a neck, body, pickups....etc and felt compelled to build a guitar around one of those things....why should a bridge be any different :icon_scratch:  Let's face it, we only need one tiny excuse to build something new.

I'm working on my routing jig to make my first ones out of wood for either an electric hardtail or acoustic applications....I gots me sum purty wenge blanks just beggin to be used :icon_biggrin:

Wenge sounds interesting. Are you thinking "string through" hardtail with 2 or 3 counter sunk screws to hold it in place and Strat like saddles? Wouldn't the adjustment screws on the saddles tend to dig into the Wenge?  :dontknow:

It would definitely look sharp if it will work. I'd take one! :icon_thumright:

I can tell you, he likes doing the bridges so the 3 mounting screws are hidden by the saddles.

Not like where you see them on a Tele bridge (4 screws)

Yummie .... wenge dose sound nice !!
Now where's my Acoustic guitar :icon_biggrin:

Well, I can share a bit of oddity... those three "mounting holes" are of course the same holes to mount the block, right? I bought one of these online:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/290592848125?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

And to my surprise, I saw that it has the same three mounting holes as this:

http://www.warmoth.com/Schaller-475-Flat-C712.aspx

And lest you be wondering why Schaller would even PUT rollers on a string-through, it's because all they really did was saw off the arm and pivots from these:

It does take a tiny step towards standardizing parts, at least among Schallers.

On the sort I have ... yes  :icon_thumright:
Heres Cagey's hard tail one ...  http://www.unofficialwarmoth.com/index.php?topic=18936.0
The only difference is the ones I have, have the 6 screws and those other 3 hold the block.
Where on Cagey's, those holes are the mounting screw holes.

String spacing on the one's I have are  .. http://www.warmoth.com/Vintage-6-Hole-Tremolo-Chrome-P590C696.aspx
Cagey's is ... http://www.warmoth.com/Fender-American-Standard-Flat-Mount-P1654C860.aspx
Think Cagey's has a thicker wall / side edges than the one's I have. Looks like it.
The scartozi ones are very comfy, where my palm rest on it ..... I like his design very very much.  :headbang:

If somethings wrong in the spec's above .... Scartozi will kill me  :icon_jokercolor:

Cagey's is the top one, then the one's I have.

The hardtail is a bit narrower, 1.400" and the trem replacement is 1.750"

I love this bridge, wish i could fit one on Excalibur..

Incidentally, I managed to clean up my aluminum Scartozi bridge today. This thread inspired me. It was useless as it was, and I certainly wasn't going to throw it away.

Anyway, it came out fine....

IMG_1711_Sm.JPG

I used the "oven cleaner method" since I've still got some of the good stuff from the plating removal debacle. Took it off fairly quickly, but I had to make about three passes at it because I kept cleaning it off too early. DIdn't want to eat the aluminum.

In the end it was still a bit etched, but at least not pitted or anything. A great deal of elbow grease and 5 grades of polishing cloth took it where you see it now. There's still a tiny bit of anodizing left in the inside corners, but you'll never see it once the saddles are installed. So, it's useful once again.

Now I gotta build another guitar.

index.php

I want one of these with the 6 screw holes in the front enlarged just enough for the connectors of Graphtech's Ghost Saddles to fit through them. :icon_thumright:

I feel another build coming on!!! :guitarplayer2:

Well.....my plan for the wood bridges is to rout out the base enough to inlay a piece of 1/16" steel for the saddles to sit on :icon_scratch: And, yes, 3 mounting screw holes.

As far as the mounting holes go, Doug and I have messed around with dimensions and I believe (correct me if I'm wrong Doug) for the hardtail application ONLY we're doing the mounting holes at the same location  regardless if it's vintage or standard string spacing. I believe we used the mounting hole spacing of the vintage bridge for this. Now, trem versions are different, they will be to factory spec.

Ddbltrbl: What string spacing do you need? I have one in Vintage string spacing ready to go and it wouldn't be a problem to put holes wherever you want them. I can do some 1/16" or 3/32" holes right behind the 6 mounting holes. Its something I'd be interested in doing because I plan on installing the Ghost System someday. We can do whatever you want.....I know if it was me I'd want to hide the wires.

almost forgot....nice job cagey  :headbang:

Gotta love the good ole toxic oven cleaner. That's what I used to age my brass jackplate and bridge, works great on brass!! I learned my lesson with paint stripper.....if you buy the "green" crap the only thing it strips is your wallet of some green! GO TOXIC and get it done!

Thanks. It looks good again, so I'm happy. I've still got that black cherry carved-top Tele body sitting here just rotting - nobody's bit on it yet - so maybe I'll change the hardware scheme to chrome or nickel and finish that off. There's a Wenge/Wenge neck up for sale that I'm waiting to hear if I beat anyone else to. That combination could work out to something nice. Maybe make a nice Christmas gift for one of my brothers or my Tele-obsessed niece. Or, I could finally set up the Nashville-tuned guitar I've been saying I'm going to do for a while now.

Cagey you can clean my oven anytime you want    :laughing7:
That came up well  :icon_thumright:
