Good Fret Cutters & Fret Tang Nippers for Stainless Frets?

My leveling files, crowning files, all are confirmed for stainless, but I know STEWMAC even disclaims the above items for use with Stainless Fretwire.

Anyone have any suggestions, links?

I have a set of these. They are made by Knipex and ground by Crimson for fret work.

Nice resource Stratamania.

Any U.S. vendors, or perhaps a pneumatic powered set?  I've seen Carvin use one.
I've got an air compressor & home to utilize it for more than just blowing dust out of the garage.

There's nothing specifically designed to cut stainless frets. Most of the tools are regular old end cutters ground flat to give you a flush cut. Some are better than others. If you're so inclined your best bet would be to get the best set you can find and grind them yourself. Knipex are definitely top shelf. They have long handles for more leverage. They shouldn't be too difficult to source.

That's a good idea if you can find Knipex or a similar quality locally and grind or have ground locally. Otherwise Crimson do ship internationally and they provide a good service.

I have a set of these (SPEN) that have served me well, and I do almost exclusively stainless steel frets...

They're kinda pricey, and as Pabloman says - they're all gonna die - but so far they've lasted me longer than any others.

Here's another source. I noticed Jescar have started selling tools. Might be worth a look.

Maybe it's heresy but I've had pretty good results using a Dremel with a cut-off wheel for cutting and shaping stainless steel fret wire.  Just work gradually and use both hands resting on a surface to give good stability and control.  And safety glasses, obviously!

The founding principle of this forum is heresy.  We have decided not to let the factories build our axes for us.  We might as well be bomb-throwing anarchists.
