My inlaws are taking my husband and I to Vienna for Christmas and Prague for New Year's.  I know Vienna is amazing and has lots of great music history places to visit, but other than the usual "it is gorgeous" things I've heard about Prague, I don't know what there is to visit in and around the city.  Any recommendations?

I "did" Yurp twice, once as a little tyke and once in my early 20's. What is indelibly stuck in my mind is castles and cathedrals. If I went back, I'd go look at... more castles and cathedrals. When you see what those "uneducated" people could build, with hand tools - yikes! Never been to Prague, but they appear to have a rockin' castle. I know Czecho-Slovakia had a centuries-old tradition of building fine instruments which has undergone a resurgence now that the nasty commie boot is off the neck, metaphorically. They're building a whole lot of the brass instruments used worldwide, but I'd bet if you did some digging you might find a tour of a violin shop or somesuch. Again, Hand tools... :o N. bring me back one of these plese:

I am so jealous.

Please tell me you'll take a guitar and go to some open jams there.
