I've got brown calf-skin and black goat-skin boots. My brother has a pair of snake-skin boots he never wears. We've got the same size feet. I should steal them.

Pull the old "Hey what's that outside?" while you take his boots when he's not looking :icon_biggrin:
I like playing in boots.
Here's the only other vid from the gig that we managed to capture. Not Warmoth but my Tele tuned to open G. Flubbed at 11 seconds by going to D instead of E for a second. I don't know why I can't freaking get that down. I've only been playing the song for 35 years (only recently in open G though).
Cheers

Oh yeah. I always use strap locks. Never used to, and then I had one of the traditional ones let got, and my strap slipped of, breaking a strat head stock. Now I have the schaller ones on all my axes.

I remember reading a thread on another forum regarding strap locks and being surprised at how many folks didn't use them, mostly for remarkably silly reasons like "they're noisy" or "they're too much trouble" or "they're just another unnecessary expense".

I'm not a gig monster who's played with a million bands, but I still know a frightening number of people who've had the same experience you did, where you lose the thing and break its neck or at least bang it up badly.

To me, strap locks rank right up there with indoor plumbing, sliced bread and refrigeration. Gotta have 'em. No matter how remote, I can't imagine taking the chance that I'd drop my guitar, if for no other reason than I may not have another one sitting in the wings waiting for me. I came close a few times back before straplocks existed and when they finally came out I was ultra-thankful somebody had the presence of mind to come up with the things. Since then, I've never gone without.

I just heard about the planet waves tweed strap and crankable strap lock - looks really good. I think I'll get it.
I know one guy who takes the rubber stoppers off of his Grolsch beer bottles and uses those. Also sounds good.
What a bummer Paul. Ouch. That's one of those moments that you just stare in shock hoping that time can somehow be rewound for a few minutes.

:o  Yes that's pretty much what happened (plus a lot of crude obscenities).  I wasn't even gigging. Just a casual jam session with some friends. The guitar is no longer in my possession, with a new warmoth neck to replace the cracked one (as it was FUBAR), and is now being rocked by my nephew.  :guitarplayer2:

I always laugh at people who say strap locks are just "hype". I mean, they will spend $2000 on a custom guitar (worrying sometimes about the smallest most irrelevant details), and then they will be cheap and not spend $30 to properly secure it to a strap.

Of course, they then drop said guitar, and are bleeding  :icon_biggrin:

A Strat or even a Tele, if fairly docile, could survive without ever needing any, but some guitars can't be worn without them.  Explorer, Firebird, Iceman, Les Paul?  What did those guys used to do?

I never remove my strap. I think if I were to try it would take a bit of work to undo it.

Never thought about the chord through the strap. Good idea. I need strap locks too, I took a chance and played without this time.

Actually snakeskin boots. I do have a pair of Zebraboots but my wife insisted on these.

Ernie Ball passive volume pedal
Digitech JamMan Looper (need it since I'm the only guitarist as of now)
TC Nova repeater delay
Zakk Wylde Dunlop Chorus
Pitch Black Tuner

Cheers!
Many thanks PT :icon_thumright: Nice setup !
Yep I just thought most guitarists playing live gigs, had the cable thought the strap.
Couldn't see the strap buttons ... (you opened a can of worms there)  :laughing7:
But strap locks are the norm these days.
:rock-on:

I just wanted to say that I loved the guitar when I saw it a few months ago.

And I've loved even more hearing it played so beautifully....

Thank you.

Thanks Blackouts! I'll have to try to record it next gig and get a little more footage of it!

I haven't used straplocks since the early 90s. Any guitar I play standing with a strap has PRS-style buttons, which are essentially Fender bass string trees:

I've run around like a madman, never had a strap get near coming off of one.

Do you screw them into the guitar with the strap on the button or do you try to force that thing into the little hole of the strap?
(I know that last sentence sounds a bit metaphorical but I'm actually serious).

Very nice tasty solo on the tele through the Mesa. Too bad you don't have a khaler trem on there so you could add in sme dive bombs at the end of each phrase. It would class up the solo....& the axe.  :toothy12:  :icon_biggrin: :toothy12:

Good idea but I'm definitely a hardtail kinda guy!

I use it just like a regular pin. Depending on the strap, I usually have to angle it a bit so it can slide over the larger area. Once it's on, it's not coming off (unless your strap hole is too big or worn out). It's super cheap to try out... if you don't like them, you'll only be out a few bucks... and you'll have an excuse to build two basses.  :icon_biggrin:

Forgot to mention Suhr's strap pins are similar to PRS:

And in case you're wondering about the guitar, it's a Modern Carve Top with a Cocobolo fretboard:

Did it again, Saturday night. This guitar is my main axe now.

Here are 2 songs, one is part of Nick Lowe's "What's so funny bout Peace Love and Understanding" and the other "Chain of Fools". We are essentially a 3 piece so I'm playing mostly rhythm the whole gig. I do play a solo over a looper in China Grove.

What's cool about Chain of fools is that it's one freakin chord - A. I just kinda mess around with it.
Cheers,
Phil
