Guys, spring has arrived and after a long winter playing the same guitars I'm getting some serious GAS. Looking around at my guitars, and then looking around the site, I see that I'm missing a Jazzmaster and a Telecaster. I mention the JM first because I think I would get bored with a Tele. As you all know, I'm always up for a Strat. But, I've had a JM build in mind for quite a while. I'm envisioning an ash body with a really nice burl top, I could so easily be swayed by a spalted top though. Only thing is, with both woods, buying a piece that is unseen would be like jumping over a ledge without looking to see how far the drop is first. A good piece of spalted maple is gorgeous, a mediocre piece is nothing to write home about. The problem lies in that these bodies are not going to suddenly appear in the showcase so ordering is the only route. I would imagine they have the sample pieces to peruse though.
With the JM I'm also picturing HSH and a Floyd Rose, or a stop tail....maybe I should build one of each.....and end up divorced. hahaha!! I'm thinking of a highly figured maple neck and fingerboard. I know a lot of people around here like the exotics but I'm a simple man. Maple suits me just fine.......or a killer piece of ebony.
Anyway, I'll let you guys know what I decide on.

BTW, has anyone tried the EVH pickups from Fender?
