grilled cheese made with raisin bread is AMAZING. no joke. nobody ever believes me.

I can believe it. I saw an episode of a cooking show some time back where this guy decided that if wine and cheese was good together, then fruit and cheese should be, too. So, he started making grilled cheese sandwiches with a variety of combinations of cheeses and preserves or jam (jelly won't work), and the crowds went nuts over these things. Didn't seem like it should work, but apparently it did. Mozzarella with apple, cheddar and grape, havarti and strawberry, etc. Haven't tried it yet myself, but intend to. I can imagine the raisin bread/cheese combo works for the same reason.

i'm really gassing for a carvin right now :sad1: i feel a little bad about it. but their LP-style guitar is awesome. like a cross between an LP and a PRS singlecut

I've always thought Carvin had some excellent ideas that were were well-executed, but I've still not bought one of their guitars. I have bought necks from them before, though. Still have one looking for a home. Fine pieces of work. Highly recommended, especially at the price. The workmanship is as good as Warmoth's, but you don't get a lot of choices. It's ebony over maple, or go scratch. Plus, you have to do your own finish work. Not that there's anything wrong with ebony over maple - far from it, it's a classic combination - but it's been done to death.

My next guitar is going to be a Carvin CS6. After looking around for a none Gibson Les Paul for YEARS, the Carvin seems to be the ideal Les Paul for a Fender guy. It weighs around 8lbs, has a back contour, slim neck, thinner body, 25" scale neck, way better wood, parts & workmanship & sells for 1/2 the price. It just seems like the perfect Les Paul for strat guys. Plus, I'd kill myself if I ever gave my money to Gibson!!!

Check out these beauties:  :icon_thumright:

i want this one! but since it's in-stock it won't be there long, and i'd make a few changes myself (no inlays, black headstock, etc). so i'll just wait until i have the money to custom order. but the color is absolutely perfect! looks like a real PRS slayer to me!

Looks very nice!!!!

I like no inlays too. The look of jet black ebony with no inlays is sweeeeeet!!!!

Luckily, the custom shop options gives you a lot of room for customizing your dream guitar.

I'm torn between flame Koa or Spalted maple.

I agree. I've been too chicken to try it, though. Maybe on the next build.

That's an easy fix. Play your guitar and see if you really follow the inlays or the side dots. You may just find it's more psychological than anything else.  :icon_thumright:

My first guitar without inlays was my Gibson Gothic Lester and I thought the same thing, "how will I know where I am?". But after playing it for a few minutes I realized I followed the side dots and not the inlays to know where I was on the neck.

You're probably right. I think my eyes just pick targets of opportunity, depending on my sight lines.

i bought an acoustic with only a 12th fret inlay without even giving it a second thought. fortunately for me i found out pretty quickly that i was a side-dot kind of guy :icon_biggrin: then my gibson bfg les paul had no top inlays and i was just fine with that too. the only reason i've not ordered a warmoth neck without dots was just for the return policy honestly.

I have a cheap nylon string with no fretboard inlays and no side dots above the 9th fret.

It can get really confusing, particularly when I haven't played it in a while, when playing high on the neck, as the only other indication is the neck/body joint.

But I can adapt to it fairly quickly.

I tried no inlays, and I trip up over myself big time  :icon_biggrin:  Apparently I need all the help and dirty tricks I can get  :headbang:

Got this gorgeous neck on one of my builds. Although I do not have the statistics to back it it up - I do believe I got as many wrong notes on this neck as on the ones with dot-inlays.
Nice neck SP, I to have gone with 2 builds now with no inlays or dots and have had no ill affects on my playing, still as shitty as it was before..... :icon_biggrin:

See if the back wasnt clear gloss mahogany, it might be ok, but i think that clear gloss coat just clashes in the wrongest kinda way.

I like the idea, but im sure there are other "special" paint jobs people would like to see made permanent instead of hoping to see them in the showcase.

I don't mean to be critical of them since i am an ass, but it seems to me that if they spent more time focusing on getting this backlogue they talk about shortened then they could perhaps offer more services and maybe take some suggestions from the forums to see what other options they could add like the fret bevel options or what have you.

We take quite a few forum suggestions and appreciate the input. But you must realize that the paint department is not the neck or fret crew departments. Coming up with different finishes is much faster than thinking up, fabricating machinery, and fixtures for fret bevel options ( which we have discussed). So what this means is some areas of the shop like paint it is much easier to have different options become available than others. Your really compairing apples to oranges.

Don't you mean more like... Apples to bananas or something? I mean, apples and oranges are both round, could be about the same size, it's still a bit similar.  :dontknow:

Geez, some people.

Maybe it's more like comparing changing your clothes to getting your nose done...  :icon_jokercolor:
