GAS Alert!!!!

These satin finishes are close to getting the better of me:

I totally agree...  There is a Mahogany Turquoise Satin Strat that screams at me every time I visit the site.  And I think it was Bagman who posted a Swamp Ash Tele version earlier.

I have no idea how I missed 4.5# Solid Koa Carved Top Tele weeks ago when the Koa stuff was announced...  Thankfully, it has "the wrong pocket" and will not properly fit the neck I have sitting here.  :laughing7:

I put Strat-heeled necks on all my Teles on purpose. You never know when you might have reason to remove the neck and perhaps use it somewhere else or sell it. Strat-heeled necks make that easy. Tele-heeled necks are limited to Teles. Not as easy to move around and a smaller market if you want to sell it.

So, buy that body. You know you want to.

If it was top routed, I probably would have by now...  But I am not convinced I would be able to "deal" with the tiny gap that would be visible from the side.  First world problems...

Wouldn't he extension on a 22 fret neck cover the gap?

Yes, it does.  With a Warmoth Pro-22 fret neck, you'll never see that gap.

Kind of like, you'd never see that spitting gap between Madonna's two front teeth if she'd shut her mouth already.

Isn't that based on the assumption that the fretboard lies flat against the body or a pickguard?  Which in this case would require the 720 mod on a Showcase body...

When it come to Madonna, I too prefer the sounds of silence.....

Not necessarily, even without the 720 mod or a pickguard, it's doubtful that you'd notice that gap because of how far back the gap occurs.

That, and it's pretty small. I have 5 Teles here, none of them with Tele necks, all of them with 22 fret Strat-heeled necks. 4 of the bodies are carved tops without pickguards, 1 is a flat top with a 'guard. It's very difficult to see the gap on any of them. I tried taking some pictures to illustrate, but I can't get the gap to show.

I had built a number of Teles prior to starting on my own little family of them, usually using Strat-heeled necks. That's why I never worried about it. I knew it wasn't going to be an issue.

Thanks, it would be a shame to drop the money on it and then discover that the joint looks terrible.. Although I'm not sure how appreciative my bank account is at the moment though...  :eek:ccasion14:

I understand. That's a painfully expensive body. You wanna make sure you're gonna be happy.

Because of the price, it might be there for a couple/few more days. To be certain you won't regret the decision, you could get a cheap tele body somewhere and bolt a Strat-heeled neck to it to see the gap yourself. For instance, these finished XGP bodies can be had for as little as $69. There are probably cheaper ones out there, but I know for sure the XGP parts follow the Fender spec so you'll have a proper neck pocket to work with. Since it'll be finished and new, you'll probably be able to flip it on ebay and only lose $20 in the end. In the grand scheme of things, that's pretty inexpensive peace of mind.

In addition to peace of mind, you'll have another assembly under your belt and I dunno about you, but I really wish that I could somehow put together 100 or 200 guitars to get good at it and *then* after that put together the one that was for me.

Just a bit gassy, man.  Much as I would like to see my name on a shipping order, my finances say different.  It would be my fourth, yes my fourth, build in one year.  I need to slow down just a little.

Fernando, I say go for it.  Trans red all the way, dude.

I can understand that. Three so far this year, eh? Sounds like it's been fun, then. :icon_biggrin:

Does Warmoth give volume discounts?  Buy 3 get 1 free?  I am sorely tempted by that roasted ash.  Problem is, after that, i need to get neck, bridge, tuners, pickups, electrics, etc...

Although... the more I play with it, the more I think it needs the pickguard.  Still liking the P/J there.

For all you long scale guitarists out there ... what say ye to this?
