GAS Alert!!!!

This is great. No Cletus I don't think you're a dick. Believe it or not it is possible to have a difference of opinion and nobody has to be a dick for it. I guess I should clarify my statement. I wasn't implying it was a conspiracy or the voting was rigged or any wrong doing occurred. I just felt that guitar had some unique qualities that we haven't seen done over and over already. The guitar that won is a beautiful guitar. Fantastic guitar. Don't get me wrong its just a fairly common build. I'm not mad Agwan sticks and stones and all that BS. At the end of the day I know where I'm at and who and what I have under my roof and what I'm doing in the morning and that's good enough for me. I have enough respect for u to keep from calling you a dick just because I might not see your point or feel that you crossed a line.

Man I got to say I really hate flamed and quilted top strats. They always look so cheap to me. Like a damn Mighty Mite build or somethin. There is only one that I absolutely loved though and that guy got ripped off because theres some unwritten rule that a VIP trumps them all. Hell that pearloid binding and all the drama surrounding it should have been enough.

I assume you were reffering to me, I feel honored, but a hard tie for third is good enough for me in that lineup.  I don't love the quilt or the flame that much either, but flame seems a little bit nicer.  It all depends on the build I suppose.  I got lucky when the first flame guitar busted, then I found a gorgeous quilt choice that had flame-like tendencies.  It really fit the theme I was looking for.  My girlfriend still thinks it's sexy. :laughing7:

I'm getting really tired of the "I'm just expressing my opinion" excuse any time people feel like acting like trolls.  If someone asks you what your opinion is on something, that is one thing.  If the conversation is going along fine about something totally unrelated and you come in and say how tacky you think a guitar style is that you know half the forum likes, that is a very transparent attempt to call attention to yourself because you are looking for a fight.

When I was in school, there was a girl who had very strong opinions on things, and she would go out of her way to voice them to people that she knew damn well would be upset by her comments.  A good example was when someone in the room (who was totally minding her own business) had an AFI tattoo.  Suddenly this crazy girl starts going off on how AFI is the lamest emo band ever.  It really doesn't matter if that is her honest opinion, that is a crappy thing to do, especially when the person likes them enough to have them tattooed.  She was looking for a fight, so she went ruining someone else's afternoon so she could have the attention she wanted and her fun little argument.  Needless to say, a lot of people hated her.

I love the hell out of it on just about anything else but strats. I think only because me and a few friends built the hell out of some flamey mighty mite superstrats. Blue and Pearloid is one of my alltime favorite combinations.

I would have to say the Mighty Mite strats do have a cheapened generic look about them.  I'm glad I didn't go that route, but Warmoth does do a fine job on theirs.

So should I just start running all my posts by you now for your effin approval? So now it's only ok to express your opinion if someone asks? Who asked for yours? I'm really tired of people chiming in and trying to act like forum police. There are moderators for that. Running your mouth because someone doesn't share your view or methods is much more like looking for a fight. Just because we do not share the same taste in guitars is hardly cause to jump on your soap box woman. Hell the picture was of Cagey's guitar. He probably saw my post and said, " eff Pablo, he's an idiot" and then went and made some wonderful music on the guitar that he built that is exactly what he wanted. Seriously though relax chick, your maple topped piece won GOTM. I have no such claim to fame. Be proud of your creations. They are after all your own. You don't need my stamp of approval and I sure as hell don't need yours.

Ya thats just why I associate the look. I mean obviously the Warmoth stuff is miles ahead in quality. Honestly to even compare the 2 is silly. It's definately apples and oranges. Anybody with one definately has something to be proud of. I'm the dumbass that cut corners. I wasted time and money just trying to achieve a look. The final product didn't even come close to the expenditures. These are the reasons I am left with my opinion. Anyway good job! :party07:

Some of you people are really lame and predictably boring.

Can we please get back to GAS discussion, and leave the teenage attention games behind?

Why is it ok for you to come at me yet I can't come back at you? I made a general statement in my OP, didn't ask for your 2 cents, yet you felt compelled to come at me so ya I'm gonna have a reply.

I'm not fighting.  I said what I wanted to say, and I'm done.  I don't like to see people trolling for arguments, end of thought.

Anybody know anything about this wood?
FB596a.jpg

It's IPE, and if you go into necks, warmoth pro, at the bottom of the page under unique choice, there are a bunch of these.  It is not in the unique choice in the neck builder though.  Anybody know why?

I think this would look great with perloid dot inlays on a walnut tele.

Ipe is a very nice wood.  I've got a fretless Gecko neck with an Ipe fingerboard, and it plays like a dream.  It's tight-grained, dense, and naturally somewhat waxy, with a very textured feeling to the surface.  Tonally, it has a lot of upper mids and a thick, full fundamental.

The neck builder options aren't always updated to show all the woods that they have in stock.  This is probably where you'd want to phone in your order.

I donno about the pearl, but solid black inlays would look nice.  At least the ebony black fretless lines look nice on my neck.  :)
