One way of keeping costs down, apparently, is to cheap out on the catalog photography.

No doubt. But, to be clear, that's the distributor's photography, not the manufacturer's. Although, I don't know if that makes any difference, really. Somebody's gotta pay for everything in the end, and it's always the customer.
