A Floyd has much better tuning stability. When you use a Squier tremolo heavily you'll knock your guitar out of tune very quickly.... using a double-locking trem like a Floyd will prevent that from happening.
It all depends what kind of music you play... if you play blues/country, you'll only be using the trem subtly. If you want to shred like EVH, you need a Floyd so you can slam/yank on the whammy bar and get a big bend!
The downside of the Floyd is it's expensive and it's more difficult to restring and retune. Plus it's got a lot of moving parts... go to a store with used guitars and I'm sure you'll see some old Jacksons missing bits and pieces off their trems.
That sounds like its worth the money, would something like a Gotoh Wilkinson be a nice medium? Fewer moving parts, Easy to tune and restring, better tuning stability than a Squier tremolo, and less expensive than a FR? I don't actually know too much about Gotoh; they may not be worth much.
