Flame on!

Got my neck and body in the mail today!

Neck is roasted flame maple with SS frets, modern construction.

Body is mahogany with flame maple lam top. Will be HH configured with super switch.

Can't wait to get started on this. Unfortunately I haven't even ordered the bridge yet as it has been out of stock with Wilkinson since April, not expecting a restock for another 4-6 weeks :(

I was going to burnish the neck but honestly it feels so good as it is so I might just leave it alone!

That is really nice flamed maple :icon_thumright: Your finished build should be awesome with that neck and body combination.

That should look nice when it is done.  What pickups do you have planned to put in?

A Triple D set from Vineham Pickups. Somewhat local builder. The set is based off of a Super Distortion (bridge) and PAF Pro (Neck).

Thanks, not heard of them before.

Ooh, that is a nice top on that guitar, full of flame! I like the output jack on the edge rather than the front, much better when you have a nice top like that! The mahogany core and back look really nice too.

I feel bad enough covering up much of this top with a pickguard, I'm glad that I chose to put the output jack on the side as to not cover up any more than is necessary!

Didn't give this much thought until looking at the body again today. Is this a bubble in the clear coat?

The entire discolored area around the sticker (sticker is under the clear) is raised up a little bit. Do I need to worry about this over time? I plan on using shielding paint in the cavity.

Looks beautiful!  Out of curiosity, how would you rate the amount of 3D / depth in the flamed top?  The pattern looks the same in all your pics, so it doesn't seem to have much depth, but pics are always hard to judge.  I recently had a Tiger's Eye top very similar to yours that I wasn't too satisfied with because of that.

And yeah, that spot in the cavity very well might chip off, but best not to worry about it. If you put down masking/blue tape in there, it'll probably lift finish out with it (happened to me).  If those little chips bother you, you can always touch them up (if not too visible) with some superglue (yeah, I did that).

I don't have any other flame maple guitars to compare it to but I do have two quilt maple top guitars. One with a solid cap and one with a veneer. This sits right in between them from what I can tell. Not the most 3D look for sure but I'm still very satisfied with it.

Well I guess I best not mess with that bubble then. I'll just be painting over it. Not that I would bother, but could this be grounds for a warranty claim?

You got nothing to worry about.  They just didn't the polish the inside of the cavity, which is 100% normal.  No worries, Mate.

No, little imperfections inside the control cavity are definitely not grounds for a warranty claim, especially since (1) most folks cover it up anyway with foil or paint, (2) it’ll be covered by a plate, (3) it’s still way nicer than most other mfr’s guts.

Mine has the same thing over the sticker in the middle. It's raised up like it's got thicker finish on it. So that seems to be the normal way they make them. Doesn't matter since it's on the inside.

Definitely looks like a player. How heavy is it?

Do you mean how much does the body and neck weigh individually? The guitar isn't assembled yet. Very curious to see when it's all said and done though.
