Fit kit/samples (loaner)

Has Warmoth considered putting together a number of "fit kits" that if a person was looking to purchase a neck you could call and rent the "kit" - for whatever the cost would be to replicate it if they don't return it.  Then when they return the kit get a full refund.  You could put a partial neck of each neck profile in there - put all of the different frets on the necks, all of the different inlays, several different woods, etc.  If there was no truss rod in there and there was only about 10 or 15 inches of the neck that should give enough to get the feel down.  I know I would have gone this route so i could see all of the different necks - I just went with the standard thin to be safe.

This is a good idea, I've considered doing this to try a new form fitting, offset neck contour... I still need to do that.

I think that might work, but it would need to be longer than 10 - 15" to get a feel for each different contour.  What might be better would be to have "authorized retailers" of local luthiers to have example necks of the different contours & woods.  No one really needs an in person example of what a body looks like to have a preference or opinion for it. And while there's lots of factors that contribute to tone, it is possible to have a rough idea what a pickup sounds like from sound samples. But the feel of different neck woods and neck contours is something that can only really be evaluated with the object in your hands.

Plus: the luthiers in question could offer custom build services to non-DIYers; charge to assemble & setup the instrument once they order the parts!  Win-win!

-Warmoth knows curiousity is gonna get the better of most of us, -and that leads to more sales! A symbiotic system I don't really mind being the host for.

...but in all fairness, it does seem like a good idea that may indirectly increase sales with the more careful/conservative crowd. The ones who like to get it right the first time. The people who don't have the $$$ to buy stuff they might not like... -wait. I should be in that crowd.  :icon_jokercolor:

Just for perspective, in Ebay-> golf clubs-> used, there are 166,264 current listings, starting at $159,999. But luckily you can find single clubs only as you dip down to the $6,000 level. Once you load up, you can, as many do, take them to Scotland to hit little balls too. Because it's... well, just BECAUSE, alright?
