See? There's one with beautiful flame maple! And what's so difficult about doing that with Alder versus Mahogany? They clearly can do it. I wish they'd put a price on it and have it as an option, even if it does put me out a couple extra $100.

By the way, why do people bring up how far the neck sticks out? it is a regular strat-style neck, no? is it just because the neck pocket is not "in" the body, but rather "next to" the body? (and the headstock is a little large?)

I had a Firebird studio thats was flippin awesome. I really miss that one. That and a early CE24 fell victim to GAS. That wasn't such  a horrible trade. I got a brand new Schecter Hellraiser C1 a DSL 100 halfstack and a couple of really cool pedals and a new Melody Maker.

Because the neck sticks way out there. In my (albeit very limited) Firebird experience, the first few frets feel like they're located about where the tuning pegs are on a "regular" guitar, and the tuners feel about a mile away. Ok, I'm exagerrating a little, but not that much.  :laughing7:

As to the OP, I myself have researched doing a Firebird, but the fact the lam is mahogany doesn't bother me.

However, a very good question - why can't W put whatever on there?  Tho' I doubt there would be any difference
beyond aesthetics.

I would expect a sound difference if the body were alder versus mahogany. It is not only the lam that must be mahogany, but the whole body, and I'm just plain not a mahogany man at all. Just look at W's tone chart.

I think the Firebird is the coolest-looking guitar ever produced.........like an SR-71 with strings.

+ 1  :icon_biggrin:

And to slightly return to topic: if W offers the Firebird headstock as an option (there's always a few in the showcase), why isn't it available for order?  Like, would it always be a $45 upcharge to get that or is it simply an "unlisted" option?

I'd bet it's an email or phone call away.
The Kenneth Lawrence/Hetfield headstock seems to be the same way.

3. Why do most users have reversed headstocks that are abominations when the regular (tuners on the left) looks so great?

3a. Why do users who think reversed headstocks are un-cool really give a rat's ass about what f-ing side the tuners are on?

Maybe those users are tuner and/or tuning handicapped? That would make sense as everyone knows reversed headstocks
get more chicks.  :icon_tongue:

especially the firebird ones that are the gearless ones with the "keys" on back!

Seriously - I can't believe how handy a reverse headstock is for tuning; I'm not twisting my wrist around, just reaching out, twiddle the fingers around the knob and blam. Reverse headstocks are the best for klutzes and/or people worried about carpal tunnel.  :icon_thumright:

That's what I'm curious about: if they're already programmed & easily available if you call in, why aren't they shown on the site as available options?  Or is the site just not updated?  They still don't show the 7/8ths or Bass VI...

A guess would be so that people wouldn't order them thinking them to be a more standard type of neck, then be mad when it wasn't what they were expecting (lame, i know, but i bet it has happened)
