Firebird Build - WIP

How do you like the PU's?

Somewhere in the future I want to do a build with Mini Hums.

I can't believe that warmoth hasn't fixed that issue with these pot holes yet. Someone really needs to take the lead on this. 90% of firebird customers are gonna want these tophats on it.

Sweet Firebird! It makes me want one in that metallic tobacco sunburst with a La Cabro vibe: single TV Jones at the bridge, one volume, one tone pots maybe a Schaller 475 bridge...and tuners on top! I can see a tele headstock working, or a Warhead...

Interestingly, I originally was going to order it in Tobacco Sunburst, but then I changed my mind and went with Black-Brown-Yellow sunburst, and it turned out exactly like I wanted. I was hoping for something right in between the two, and I guess the mahogany keeps it somewhat darker, so it was perfect.

As far as the pups -- they sound pretty good; they've def got a single coil-ish bite to them that I like. My amp (Fender Blues Deluxe) is out at the gf's house, so I haven't hooked it up there. But from playing it through Amplitube on my laptop ---> HT system, it sounds pretty great.

OK, so I finally have got the pics prepped for it. Here's the final product (minus strap buttons).

Click the links to see them. I don't want to flood the forum.

Nice Bird  (guitar) :headbang: let us know how it sounds with the deluxe.
I am suprised the controls issue comes up here again.
anorakDan i want to see that build.

Does anyone know where I can get a hard case for this? Since it's not necessarily up to Gibson size specs, I want to make sure it fits. But Explorer/Firebird cases aren't exactly something that's sitting around your average Guitar Center, or even small shop for that matter.

Most of the "universal" cases will fit it.  Bring it to a music superstore & try it in a bunch of cases there.  It will probably fit in a Firebird/Explorer case as well - the headstock only sticks 2 inches or so longer than a regular Firebird.  If GC has an Explorer with a case (most of them will come with a case, so they should have at least a few on site), ask if you can try to fit yours in that case.  They probably won't mind if you offer to buy on the spot, and Guitar Center now has a "match any online price" deal.

Sadly, I made mine an extra thick (2.125" deep!) thinline Firebird, so there's no hardshell that it will fit into; it's in an acoustic guitar gigbag now, fortunately no touring on the horizon.

Me too. My first Warmoth however is going to be a Flying V, black with a pao ferro over padouk neck.
Once I get a full-time job and can jetison my two part-time gigs. I'm sure everyone here has the available cash vs. guitar project ideas ratio inverted!

Looks great. I too am surprised by the pot location issue. I'll be curious to see what you do on the neck side strap button,  because of the reverse shape the top horn is a poor location. Behind the neck is where it goes on a Gibson, I believe at least one person here mounted it to one of the neck plate screws.  The Steinbergers should help reduce the neck dive at least somewhat, I replaced the crap banjo tuners on my 2008 Gibson Firebird 5 and much prefer the Steinbergers. As for cases, I really like this soft case:

More rigid than a gig bag but more convenient for "in town" use.

Yeah, that's just ridiculous really.  Sorta like their "oh, it must have needed the OTHER neck angle" issue.  Fairly Mickey Mouse, if you ask me.

On another note, I want this Firebird!  Awesome build!

Looks great  :headbang: .... nicely done.

Very lovely finish that matches perfectly all round.
Bummer they (Warmoth) haven't fixed that problem  :icon_scratch:
Mine isn't centre raised , so didn't come across that problem, but had seen it before.

:rock-on:
