Finishing all maple neck. Abalone face dots: to mask or not to mask?

Hi all.

as the subject says.

the abalone face dots are super nice and if i finish the fingerboard with (thin coat of) satin will it "kill" the sparkle of the abalone?

also if lightly sanded the fingerboard with the abalone face dots before spraying, will it blemish (leaving sanding mark) the finishing of the face dots?

Unless you are rather heavy handed with both your sanding and spraying, the abalone dots should emerge unscathed. Welcome to the board.  :headbang:
