Well, it took forever and a day, but I finally got my 60's Sunburst Double-Bound Tele Custom inspired build done.

I've gotta give major props to Rob and the entire crew over at Warmoth. Whoever says "warmoth service sucks" is 110% full of crap, because they bent over backwards to get me this body made exactly to my specs. It's one of their newer vintage-style Tele bodies, but double bound. The finish is flawless, the weight is perfect, the neck pocket is TIGHT, and the tone is insanely good. It's got the flattened jack area, the router hump - the whole 9 yards.

• Warmoth Vintage Alder Double-Bound Body w/ivoroid binding.
• Warmoth Maple/Rosewood Standard Thin neck
• Fender H1 Bridge plate w/Wilkinson Brass Saddles
• Seymour Duncan Broadcaster & Dimarzio Twang King pickups

I put a lot of care into this one - leveled, crowned, and dressed the ends of the frets super nice. This thing just growls and twangs with the best of em. Sustain for days. Super pleased with the results. Now I have to do it some justice and learn me some country licks!!!

This thing plays just as good, if not better, than any $2K Fender you can grab off the wall at Guitar Center. I just can't get over the neck pocket. There's something to be said for CNC machining, man. The precise tolerances make for a great fitting neck.

With it's "twin" - a Warmoth late 60's inspired Strat build. Another beast of a guitar. It just feels like it's going to jump out of your hands.

Thanks guys!

I know to some it may look odd, but I LOVE the little router hump in the cutaway. makes it look really authentic.

Can't believe I missed this one! That is one beautiful tele Nick  :icon_thumright:

I'm now in the process of replacing the Fender logos with PIERRO logos.

I made a major mistake there.

Fender didn't make them. *I* did.  Fender WISHES they made guitars this nice!!!  :headbang:

Instead of removing the Fender logo, you could just chisel 1/8" off the sides of the neck pocket.... I've seen '68 Telecasters with enough space beside the neck to stick a quarter into! And Scotty Anderson & Brad Paisley both play '68 Telecasters, or they did until they switched to "parts guitars." I suspect that at some point, talent is still required...  :laughing7:

There are companies that sell "exact" copies of Fender bodies, if you get a body that is "vintage 50's spec" the body under the neck pocket will look like this:

In Leo Fender's early design, the sides of the neck pocket were parallel to the centerline, not to the neck taper. Fender also had the holes for the bridge and pickup routing on a different template than the body outline, so they would wander to the left or right depending. Never buy a guitar made on Friday afternoon or Monday morning... :icon_tongue:

there is nothing sexier than a double bound tele..well done!. I built a shell pink one with maple neck... now i think sunburst with rosewood neck is in my future... making custom guitars for a fraction of the price sure is addictive.

Brad still plays his Fender '68 paisley Tele.  It's always in his guitar vault so it goes on the road.  The only exception was during the Nashville, TN floods of 2010.
Thankfully, the guitar was on higher ground and at home.
