Finally chose the body...now what pickguard?

Personally I'd always use a plain pickguard with a flamed body; I think the pattern of a pearl guard clashes with the flame pattern and detracts from its appearance.

I might go with the black pickguard, ebony fingerboard and black hardware. But then I like black.

Dude, I can't even imagine this with a plain pick guard on it. This looks like a million bucks.

Ack! I had that body in my shopping cart last night. I didn't pull the trigger, was waiting to ask em a question about a battery route first. I knew that one wouldn't last.

For the build I was spec'ing out.  The black body w/ black pearloid pickgaurd, black rec. wilkinson tremolo, all black hardware w/ EMG pickups (electronics were the iffy part. Was thinking 81/SA/85). And this Pau Ferro neck.

When the heck did they add THAT to the showcase?!?

That was added yesterday. I fell outta my chair when I saw it too. I hope they put some more of these up!

Nice guitar - but I'd probably have gone for a parchment pickguard with that. Or black. But each to their own; I'm obviously in the minority here as a lot of people and manufacturers do use pearl guards on figured bodies. Just not something I'd do myself given the choice. Another thing I'd never have on one of my guitars is gold hardware, but I know a lot of people like that look.

I'm right there with you on the gold hardware. I'm not a big fan of it. I think it looks cheap. But, before anyone blows a gasket, I think a gold Rolex looks cheap too.

I agree with the gold statement...I don't think I'd ever make/buy a guitar with gold harware  :-\ Just seems really cheap and tacky  :tard:

I think I've decided on the white pearl scratchplate (sorry to anyone who voted different  :icon_tongue:)

So before I go off to band practice tonight I'm gonna see if I can get the body and scrathplate. I think for the neck I'm going straight to the neck builder...Just a quick question but does anyone have any pics of/know how good the nightswan inlays are?

One thing I need to ask on my dads behalf....The last guitar that we made was....well the parts certainly weren't from warmoth and were no where near as good quality...

So for this reason I've been forced to ask a few questions. I thought that since you guys are the experts then you'd be the best to ask  :laughing7:

So on our last guitar the neck didn't fit properly into the neck pocket...Is it the same with warmoths or will they/should they fit perfectly? (remember that this is a finished body just in case that makes any difference).

If I can find out as soon as possible that'd be great  :toothy11:

I have to say that I am not a fan of gold, and in my opinion most guitars should not have gold hardware.  BUT, there are certain situations where it looks really nice, like on Marko's VIP and Blue313's raffle guitar.

This is why men can't dress themselves, according to most women.  I think with a beautiful and busy top, a busy pickguard is overkill and too much of a good thing.  My little rule that I made up for myself, the busier the top, the plainer the pickguard.

Does that rule work on the wife, too?  :icon_jokercolor:

This is why men can't dress themselves. HAHAHA!!! Sounds like you want to wear a $20,000 Armani suit and top it all off with a $19.99 plastic Timex on your wrist. I mean, yeah, it's going to tell the same time as a Breitling or Rolex, but it surely won't do that suit any favors.

I actually agree with STDC ...
To take your example a little further, a pickguard is quite noticeable, so it would be like wearing an over-the-top flowery shirt with your $20000 Armani suit ....
The Timex would kinda be the equivilent of cheap plastic knobs on that guitar ... functional, and not many people would notice.  The Rolex or Breitling would be the gold or platinum plated controls .....  :occasion14:

It's okay, I like wearing Converse with my formal wear too.  I still think pearloid looks good on flame though.  But not so much on quilt, depending.

Well, in my honest opinion, I think each guitar would be different. Color would have a lot to do with it too. I don't think my cherry burst would look good with a plain white scratch plate.
