There are bands I love that I listen to all the time but know that I could outplay if I wanted to (and I'm not very good). Then there are bands I don't listen to that are more talented than I could ever dream to be. It's all about what speaks to you.
For example, one of my favorite CDs to get out and listen to every now and then was done by some band from rural Pennsylvania that had members in and out like a revolving door, and I'm pretty sure this band no longer exists... This was probably just a couple songs they recorded on Garageband and then promptly forgot about, and it sounds a little like they mic'd it from 15 feet away and from behind a mattress. But I love the hell out of that demo CD. It's not the greatest CD I've ever heard, and far from the greatest band I've ever seen, but everything fits perfectly on one or two tracks.
Oh, and if I said "I own an album by _______ (band name)," it doesn't mean I support everything that band does and would defend them to the last. I hate when people assume that. "Those guys are terrible, how can you listen to that crap?" I only said I had one album, I didn't say I followed them around on tour until they finally got a restraining order against me.
