Fender Super Champ X2 Programming.......

Adjusted and tweaked channel 2 and the effects of my X2 and now I love channel 2. I used to avoid channel 2 and just use channel 1 as a blackface base to add overdrive or distortion. I attempted to match the voices on channel 2 with channel 1 by adjusting the amount of compressor in the mix. I love this amp and it sounds incredible.

Yeah, the Super Champ X2 gets maligned sometimes, completely undeservedly ! There are pursits who just hate the thought of anything that's not pure analog, and thus pooh-pooh it. But it's a GREAT little amp. And as you've discovered, especially when one uses the Fender Fuse functionality to program in the tones and effects. Sweet sounds.

Mine is modded. I replaced the Fender speaker with an Eminence Copperhead. All over a much richer and more balanced sound. I tried different tubes too. First a set of matched 6V6GT TungSols and a Preferred Series 7025/12AX7, all from the Tube Store. They were an improvement, but overall not a huge difference. So I got ahold of Brent Jesse at Audiotubes. He has some great stock, and is super helpful and knowldegable. And I picked up a matched pair of genuine RCA blackplate greyglass 6V6GTs. And a Mullard-made 12AX7. Holy smokes. It purrs. It roars. Sweet. And finally I ordered from BillM a new output transformer, which is twice the size of the stock Fender one. Makes for more sweet with less sweat.

And now, I'm thinking of selling it. Because I got a Mesa Mark V head a few months back, and I love it even more. In fact, as much as I love my Super Champ, I just keep getting pulled to the MarkV, and once I'm on it, I can't turn it off. So it stays. And my darlin' little X2 is probably gonna have to go.

So I'm wondering what / where / how might be the best avenue to sell this amp? I'd naturally like to get most of the money out that I put in, although I know I'll never get back the time and energy for the research and mod effort. I'd sell all the original accoutrements and the new installed mods, together as a package. It'd be a killer amp for someone who wants true Fender sound (ever truer, with the vintage glass!), and modern versatility, all in a tidy little small-gig / practice combo.

Ideas ?

And JeffBlue, I'm glad you're lovin' yours. Keep tinkering ... it's probably still got a little more to give. Channel 2 is where all the fun voices live.

Wish I had the cash to buy yours.........you have certainly put in the time and cash to make that amp something special. I understand your love for Mesa Boogie. Here are photos of my X2 and M190.

There's a lot to be said for having a little no-brainer amp laying around. They aren't expensive new, so used isn't going to fatten your wallet much.

At least, that's what I keep telling myself about my Super Champ. It's fast and easy and good, like KFC or a Coney Dog. Not necessarily the best thing for you, but it plays nice, doesn't fight.

I agree with Mr. Cagey. You are right. An inexpensive go-to amp that you can totally tweak.
