fender micro tilt

hey all, i got this fender standard body.

it has this metal micro tilt in the neck pocket - with a protrusion upwards which doesn't allow a neck with a plain heel to sit properly.

so what's to be done?

install the corresponding micro tilt mechanism in the neck heel as well?

or remove the mico tilt from the body's neck pocket?

appreciate the insights.

If I had that body I'd get a 3 bolt neck and use the tilt.
I've got one in my G+L F-100 II and also in my '76 Music Man Stingray bass and they're a great tweak tool.

All you need for the neck is a metal plug for the screw to push against. A US dime ( 10 cent piece ) can even fit the bill.
What ever you use just needs to sit into the wood and be somewhat flush with the surrounding wood.
You could even do it with a pen knife and some crazy glue since you'll never see the place.

Why would the O.P. need a 3-bolt neck to utilize the tilt?

My American Standard Strat has a 4-bolt neck with tilt feature, however I have never had any use for it.

I've never seen a 4 bolt with a tilt and didn't know they made them.
I just assumed that they were all 3 bolt.

I don't think Fender called the 4-bolt version "Micro-Tilt". I think it was called something else. Same thing though, but on a 4-bolt neck.

Fender call it the "4 Bolt Micro-Tilt", actually.  They reintroduced it in the new Am Stds and its derivatives in 1987. I'm another whose never had to use it though.

I had a MIM Richie Sambora Stratocaster on the bench a little while ago. It had the 4-hole neckplate with micro-tilt. I guess it is because of the Floyd Rose system and Fender apparently didn't care to route the neck pocket with an angle?  :dontknow:

The system is not my cup of tea. But I must say that though it had just be adjusted silly - balancing the neck on almost nothing - it sustained like a dream and had a nice tone also. I think it was a PAF Pro in bridge and a poplar body as I recall.

But if it were mine I would ditch the micro tilt and shim it instead.
