I know this is mostly a Hair Metal tribute band board (jk guys) but I wondered if anyone wanted to talk about acoustic music they're listening to these days. This is one chick I can't get enough of right now. Any other faves?

Dean Magraw, Antoine Dufour, Andy McKee

I also enjoy Zakk Wylde's acoustic stuff, from "Book of Shadows" to the brief acoustic instrumentals with Black Label Society

Alice in Chains had some sweet acoustic numbers too.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QbubISlLdH8 - I must have listened to this 1/365 parts of this year....:D The usually have a lot of acoustic parts in their songs - but they are primarily an excellent swedish progressive death metal band... You never know how their next album will be though! They also kick ass live  :headbang1:

Gillian Welch - excellent stuff, and I really like that live version.

Here's a favourite of mine - enjoy.

I have to admit this isn't exactly recent, but it is stuff I revisit quite a bit. Look forward to checking out some of the stuff I see here. Good post tfarny. :icon_thumright:

Tuck Andress - Reckless Precision album

Leo Kottke - Any album

Preston Reed

Alvin Youngblood Hart - Great Blues

Chet Atkins - Always a classic

I'll stop at five..        *Edit* I just realized that two of these aren't purely acoustic. It's just the way I hear it that makes me think in those terms...

Phil Keaggy is one of my favorites. Absolutely brilliant on acoustic or electric.

I've always loved the Gypsy Kings lead guitar player. I've seen them twice and they have like 7 rhythm players!  :tard:

I forget his name, but the guy who sings the song, "Feel so good, I'm gonna break somebody's heart tonight." He's great. RIchard Thompson, he is!

My main man, and a great influence on me is Carlos Montoya (RIP). He attacked that thang!

I almost forgot one who has an hour or two of practice... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ubVGiyAhkY

I love this song.  It's not the most complicated thing ever to play, but it is really beautiful.  Of course, I'm partial to 12 string though.  It sounds great on the album too because there is some steel pedal stuff over it, but here is the acoustic version.

I also love me some Sufjan:

And I don't even have to tell you guys about Rodrigo Y Gabriela... they're amazing.  I think that was a whole other thread though.

Rod Y Gab are awesome,

But dont forget

I like a lot of acoustic stuff, from rural blues of the twenties on up to this stuff here.  Recent stuff I'm really into are Devandra Banhart, Six Organs of Admittance and Will Oldham/ Bonnie Prince Billy.  None of these guys are purely acoustic, but the vast majority of their stuff is acoustic based.

Oh dear. That songs always makes me tear up, it's perfect. I won't even watch the vid... oh ok maybe I will :)

Anyone who likes acoustic music should listen to Daniel Lanois' first album Acadie: it's not all or even mostly acoustic, but man oh man is it good. Can't find any convenient YouTube linkage though :/

Also, the classics: Nick Drake, Neil Young... [fill in the blanks]

I'm an old Phil Keaggy fan from way back myself. Going to see him in concert here in Dallas in February.  :icon_biggrin:  Another song I love of his (albeit Non-Acoustic) is March of the Clouds.

I too am a PK fan.  March of Clouds is cool.  Time [1] and Time [2] has some great stuff, B-sides and what not.  However, my favorite PK stuff is his 60s throw back stuff like "Crimson and Blue" where he embraced his McCartney voice-a-like.  That album is very VOX-ampy.  He is a guitar player's guitar player.  He's mastered alternate tunings and plays in non-traditional keys for a guitar, all without the use of a capo or middle finger on his picking hand (like Jerry Garcia).  He the best guy many have never heard of.
