Overdone is relative in this case, coming from someone who has never ordered anything less than a 5A top and recommends chrome pickup rings for everything.  :icon_jokercolor:

Pickguards should compliment the top, not detract from it.  IMO, if the pretty top is the story, go with a plain guard.  If the guitar is a solid or transparent (non dyed) variety, go with a guard that is more of a looker.

I think if it's not a "loud" pearl pick guard it'll work fine. Nobody really complained when hannaugh put one on hers.

Well, most of my parts arrived today.  Just need the neck pup and electronics.  Here are a couple quick mock-ups and I guess I'll be moving this to the "Work In Progress" as of this weekend.  I didn't think about putting the neck on until I put everything away and didn't feel like dragging it all back out.  I'm sure it will look better with pups mounted and a real neck pup instead of a cover.  I'm thinking I may be able to pull this pickguard off.  ??? ???

I like and appreciate a lot of things I wouldn't do personally, but when input is requested....

Doug needs Floyds, you need chrome pickup rings and 5A tops, Mayfly needs benders, Max needs Teles, Marko needs coffee tables, Cagey doesn't need vintage anything, He Who Shall Not Be Named needs tOObs, and so on.  Everyone's preferences are personal, but I just don't dig pearl guards on pretty tops.  There's enough "hey look at me" there already.  And yes, no complaining, just constuctive criticism and peaceful co-existence.
