Extra Light Body

Hi folks and Happy New Year to you all!
I see an "extra light" feature in many available bodies. Looks like an option that gets the body under 4 pounds and it seems to be 40$ for it.
BUT I don't see anywhere how would one order a light body as in the configurator there's no choice for that.
Maybe Aaron could advice with how to get this and prices.
My next Telecaster body will have to be "extra light". How do I go for it?

thanks
😎

I think you have to call in and ask, but know that "extra light" really is a relative term so if you're ordering a custom build, there's a chance it might not be as light as you expect.

Reasons why it might not be a regular on menu option:
  1. Relative term
  2. Warmoth has to have "extra light" wood in stock
  3. It's probably somewhat difficult to know what it will weigh before it's built
You could try calling and asking how easy or hard it might be to get a body of your specs under 4lbs or whatever target weight you're looking at.

Extra light is an off-menu option. You'll need to call in or email to inquire about it.

"Extra light" is indeed relative to what we happen to have in stock at any given moment.

We do not guarantee that an extra light body will hit some specific weight point.

When you order extra light as an off-menu option, you're going to get the lightest blank from among those that we have available at that particular time.

Yeah it goes in the order notes after they confirm they can do it via email. I always opt for it and have yet to receive anything over 4lbs.

**receives 9 lb. mahogany Tele body**

Me: What the hell, Warmoth?! I asked for "extra light!!!11!11!!!!"
WM: Yep, you got the lightest stock we had at the time.
Me: 9 pounds? What's left, cinder block?
WM: [whispers] how did he know about the cinder block?

Is there a summary of all of the off-menu options somewhere? I’ll be ordering a body in the next few weeks for a new build, and I want to make sure I’ve had every opportunity to hand over more money to Warmoth ;)

Don't wanna start a new thread:
Regarding body weight: i own 5 Warmoth bodies, two of them are basswood, finished both myself with dye and tru oil.
And, like other mentioned, the wood is really light, but kinda soft, doesn't matter to me, but scratches can be made real easy.
Now my question: Wanna order a Soloist Body with Candy Red or Candy Tangerine finish (or maybe both :) ).
I know there is an option for light wood, but its relative and with basswood i'd be on the safe side.
So, does the wood under the finish (in this case candy paint) matter? Soft/hard/light/heavy? Or is the finish so hard that is doesn't matter?
Hope you get my point... 😋

Just to note ... if you take your instruments out to gig they will get finish cracks, dents, dings, scars, gashes, rashes, gouges ... etc. The first ding is always the most painful ... I few them as really nice tools, meant to be used.

I build a 7/8 S-Style, basswood with quilt maple top, black dye on the top, candy red in the back. Looks great, sounds great, I absolutely love it!

I haven't yet (in 18 months) made a dent in it and the finish feels like a better protection than an oil finish. Still, I think if I tried - which I won't 😅 - it would dent easier on the basswood back, than on the maple top.

Regarding the weight: It's not heavy, but it's also kinda heavier than I expected a basswood guitar to be... say, it's on the heavy side of light. But I didn't pick basswood for the weight anyway.

Also: I remember seeing a (finished) basswood Tele body in the showcase with something close to 5 lbs! On the other hand, I have guitars made of alder, swamp ash, poplar and (allegedly) mahagony, that are lighter than my basswood 7/8!

If weight is important, I would rather pick the "extra light" option, or discuss the matter with the warmoth guys personally!

@Tretgeraet

THANKS!!!
The last basswood Tele body was 3.38, but it was a showcase body, where the weight is stated.
But you are right, i go with roasted swamp ash and the extra light option!
Btw, nice guitar!
