ES-355 Body

Alright, so my mind let me take this image of the L5S, and manifest it into a WAY worse shape. The horn doesn't have that classic Gibson round to it. It's sort of pointy at, in clock terms, about 10:30. I actually was going to buy one of these, but I've recently found a Epiphone Dot from WAY back in a pawn shop for about a day's worth of work. I'll be scooping her up hopefully Monday.

I like these...the 356...slightly smaller than a 335...I even threw one in the the lefties.

I like the 335 because it's the only guitar that makes me look "average size" and not "Shrek after a big barbeque party" :laughing7:

Old styled Gretsch White Falcon, Gibson L5 & Super 400s would have that effect too Fernando... (you just have to have the large amount of $$ to pay for them!)  :icon_thumright:

And another day I didn't win the lottery... this game is starting get boring  :laughing7:

I think what it boils down to is that there's a hole in the Warmoth product line for "something kinda like a 355", and the L5S isn't quite filling it. Even if it's something aesthetically similar with different construction would be pretty sweet.

Three pages of discussion summed up in two sentences.  :-\

That's exactly what I was thinking earlier today.  It's really the only iconic guitar shape I can think of that Warmoth doesn't produce other than Rickys... and it happens to be my second favorite after the Les Paul.  To use a friend's expression, I would be "flying out of the walls of my mind" with joy if they started making that shape, even if it isn't an archtop.  As long as it's that shape and has chambers with f holes, I'm there.

maybe we can settle for flame/esprit/robbenford bodies!! :)

of course, I would also be happy with a starcaster or coronado..

Old styled Starcaster would be a hoot, just leave out the weird headstock! It would probably be a safer thing, marketing and ROI wise, to go for a ES335/355 shape tho.

The CS-336 is a scaled down ES-335, but its made completely differently.

The 335 is a glued in solid middle, which also has the neck and bridge all in one piece, with an overlay filler on top and bottom, and the top back and sides are glued to the filler with kerf strips.

The 336 is more conventional.  Its back is front routed like Warmoth does the thinlines.  It has a glued on, flat bottom, carved top.  Its not an archtop.  Its made exactly like a Warmoth Tele Thinline, with a set neck.

Warmoth could do that, but in arched top version, I'd expect a considerable upcharge over the L5s

You hear CB, Warmoth?  Make it happen!  Give the people what they want.  I would actually love it if it was slightly smaller than the 335.  I played a ES-355 once, which is the smaller version of the 335, and it was a little more comfortable to play for me.  Getting something like that with Warmoth quality woods would be amazing.

I like my L5S better than any ES-335 I've ever owned/played:

I still have to finish this one, can't make up my mind about what to use for pickups:

did warmoth do that toggle route? i didn't see on their website where they did a switch on the upper horn there

Warmoth didn't do it, but I'm certain that you can custom order the 3-way toggle routing in that position if you custom order a body.

I got the body ridiculously cheap off of eBay and it had no routing or vol/tone controls drilled at all, must have been a custom order. Routing was done by Josh at Mass St. Music in Lawrence, KS.

Actually they do, but with a US$45 charge for hand work... Doesn't make sense to me not having this option by CNC but it's as it works now...
